BUSES TO AND from where?ryan air dont offer any bus service

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,023 ✭✭✭Meathlass

Are Gatwick and Stansted really that much of a pain in the arse?

Im heading to london at the end of March from Cork. With Ryanair its €20 to both of these airports.
From Cork to Heathrow with Aerlingus its €179

Do Ryanair do regular busses to and from city centre and how long does it take?
Anything else i should be aware of?

The Standstead express train takes about an hour and goes to Liverpool st. station in city centre, costs about £28 one way so don't forget to factor that into costs. (train leaves from under/just outside the airport) There's lots of buses as well, all under £10 one way but can take up to 2 hours depending on traffic so depends on how much time you have. Don't know about Gatwick but I'd avoid Heathrow like the plague if you're only going over for a short holiday, The tube trip from Heathrow to Liverpool st. is about an hour as well and costs about £8 one way. I'd used Standstead lots of times and no problems.

Gatwick has a train direct from the terminal to central London, takes about 30min and costs about £16, I'd take Gatwick over Stnastead

Gatwick over standsed, but don't bother with the rip-off express train and get the normal ones.
Do a search for lots more info on gatwick on this forum

Avoid Stanstead unless your staying in North London or surrounding areas, i really don't like that airport personally, Gatwick is the best (London)airport.

If cost is an issue Easybus is available from £3 each way from Stansted if you book online early.

Depends where you are staying to an extent, though transport is so good in London,I wouldn't worry about the airport, I normally go to Heathrow, though have used Stanstead a few times and its fine.

To My mind Gatwick wins out over all the other LDN airports...
The Southern (non express) service to Victoria station take 35 mins (5 mins more than the express) and only costs £9

From victoria you can get anywhere.... As long as the circle line is not down for repairs on the weekend you are visiting!

Where are you getting this rubbish from?

Stansted Express fares are £16 single, £26 return. Or if booked via a discount link from ryanair.com £10 single, £19.60 return.

Tube fare from Heathrow (Zone 6) to Central London (Zone 1) is £4 cash or £3.50 oyster peak/ £2.00 oyster off-peak.

For £7 you can get an off-peak (9.30am onwards Mon-Fri; all day Sat, Sun) one day zone 1-6 Tube/Tram/Train/DLR/Bus Travelcard.

:D Which is quite often,it can also be slightly less frequent compared to other lines but you also have District and Victoria lines, so it is a good base to start from.

Does the #10 travel pass entitle you to use all transport within the 6 zones? I'm looking at flying into Gatwick (back out same day) and this sounds like the most cost effective way of getting into london and moving around! Would like to use bus as well as tube/rail. Tks

    Yes.

All London Travelcards are valid for Tube/Train/DLR/Tram in the zones they are valid for and ALL bus services across all zones.

That ticket is only available after 09.30 Mon-Fri. Ask for an off-peak Day travelcard.

Indeed i availed of this when i was in London for NYE, good offer for sure.

LGW is definitely my favorite "London" airport (London City is the only airport actually in the London area)i really don't like the rest especially Heathrow.

Does anyone know the current price of the Travelcard when you buy it in Luton, Gatwick and Stansted?

I bought one in Stansted yesterday and was grieved and dismayed to be asked for £22. The prices went up in January, I was told.

the current fare from gatwick with travelcard is £10.50 which is quite a good deal. the travel card costs £6.30 alone

Gatwick sounds the best, ok. Tried to find out the correct prices but was directed to the website, which is difficult to traverse. British Rail Enquiries site, that is.

Far and away the handiest airport is London City Airport. Its right in the docklands.

It really does depend where you are going as to what is the best Airport to fly into imo.
