im looking at a buying a car that has bucket seats and a 4 point seatbelt..

now im looking to use the car more as a recce car for rallying so the seatbelts would keep us in the seats over them mountain roads..

what should i look for? where should they be bolted to? also would it pass a nct? there is a year and a half of a nct left would i need to change back over the seats when the time comes?

If you're proposing putting the seats into a car of the same type as you're rallying (a lot of rally drivers use the same car for recce as they do for rally), then the old ones from your rally car should fit (don't they have to be changed for safety every 2 years?). However, you may need to check the legality of using a 4 pint harness on a public road; IIRC, they may not be legal (may also have been an old wived tale I heard somewhere).

I don't have bucket seats simply because I don't have a bucket arse...

    Hi,

i have had two cars with bucket seats in them. In one of them i went for cobra sidewinder seats (mainly coz i wanted once that would recline) , and cobra are one of the best. I also went with Direct fit frames. Its only took about half and hour to put them in - and i'm a girl! :D My car passed the NCT no problem with them in , but that was about 3 years ago now.

the other car that i had bucket seats in were "Ractive" seats. They were fine but not nearly as luxurious and comfy as the Cobra. forthem i had Universal Frames and they took hours upon hours to fit and took some welding and drilling . anything like that the NCT guys won't pass. I now have a friend in d NCT centre who says if they ever see any welding like that , its a fail straight away. :(

As for the seat belts, i never had them in the car.

My boyfriend is big into Rallying and takes part in events regularly. they just drive around a normal standard car when doing recce, something low to the ground preferably. - although i'm sure they'd love something more similar to the rally car to take out! ;)

I'm pretty sure they should be bolted and not welded . but not 100% sure. it could very well be the reason that they are going cheap though.

are you doing west cork? :)

Fey! - car 137 white civic with no sponsors. any photos of us ? ;)

missbusy - no circuit recce weekend on during that weekend... I was asked but easter is way too early this year!!!!

Sorry - no pic. I can only find Civic 130. I remember yours purely because of the lack of sponsors. You would have seen me at the start of stages 1/4 and 11/14, probably sitting in the green freelander. (Actually, you probably didn't see the start of stage 1 due to the 3 wheeled widebody clio that blocked my stage and we had to go and remove...)

How did you find the weekend?

it was a horable rally for me... i was sick during recce so i could hardly move!!! so my notes were not up to scratch... this affected me during the rally and wasent myself... the driver im with doesent like the wet so that also slowed him down... but at ss11 we were 4th in class with 20 seconds between 4th to 2nd in class and he was going for it only for the drive shaft to go....

driver hopes to have sponsers for the circuit ;) you prob know him hes from ballinasloe niall donoghue??

sure ill keep in contact to when ever im up there again so we can say hello to each other :)

Sorry to hear ye didn't get to finish. At least ye weren't one of the many victims of Loc 9 on SS11 - the sector marshal was ringing me every 10 minutes to warn of blockages!!! He was brilliant, though; got us restarted on time every time!

I don't know your driver; I wouldn't know too many competitors (I know it sounds odd, but I don't really know much or follow rallying; we just go out, run our stages, and go home).
