I love one quote from it:
the average Irish household boasted a wealth holding of €674,000 at the start of the year.

Do you feel different? I feel pretty much the same. Knowing that on average, I'm worth €674,000 makes me feel a bit better I guess.

huh! thread makes my head hurt what are you trying to say?

I haven't read the article but im presuming it has something to do with houses prices so the household is worth the average house price is this a shock?

Read the first few paragraphs and quit, what people fail to understand it that it's all realitive. My house is work apx €300,000 it doesn't mean I have that much money, first off I owe the bank most of that and even if I didn't what happens when I liquidate all my assets (sell everything I own) yeah I'd get the value of the house in cash, but where would I live??

The average house includes approximately 3 people. And do they mention the sea of debt?

I have no assets, only debts. I feel that it is an abuse of my human rights that I have none of this wealth. I demand I be given €674,000 so I can go shopping.

Actually every time one of these comes out, I'm always surprised that the level of household debt is so low (in relation to the average house price and how we hear about there being too many mortgages). There are clearly a considerable number of people who own their homes outright, or almost so.

Just read in the Indo where the most recent figures say that 1/3 of homes are owned outright.

The reason for starting the thread was to point out the sillyness in even making this 'breaking news'. I wouldn't go around bragging that I own €20k worth of goods, as I clearly owe €18k of the value of those goods to ze bank.

A non news story if ever there was one.

im still trying to my head around these figures. What i really cant work out is that when you take housing out of the those figures, the worth is c. 320k with debts of 120k! Where in the name of hootanilly did they derive those figures from!

    Journalism for the Champers Generation.

For such wealthy people who drive new cars and have big houses, they sure spend a lot of time counting their pennies out at Tesco.

Yeah it's just past the sea of traniquility, after the dead sea. Where all the biker gangs hang out and have monkey knife fights :p
