Temporary Lay Off - What are your rights?

There is rumour that some in the company, including myself, will be temporarily laid off. What does this mean - no pay for the duration? Does this work to the employer's total advantage - can it be extended? Any advice welcome.

You'd have to imagine it means no pay - why would they pay for people not to work if they are in difficulty? Try here: https://www.reachservices.ie/reachPortal/appmanager/portal/default?intserviceslink=shp_1208_en

this happened to me last year. you will be entitled to claim job seekers benefit. after four weeks if they have not taken you back you will be able to claim for redunancy if you have been there for more than two years. its basically a way of the company getting people out of the way if they have no work coming up.
