    Lads,

As a newbie to the sport Im just wondering what type of head gear some of you oldies recommend using during the summer when the weather is a bit hotter?

Full face masks are difficult even in the depts of winter and tend fog up. Would the 1/2 neoprene masks be comfortable with goggles or what is the best type of wear for the hot sunny days?

I personally have my Guarder G-C3's and would wear nothing other than them!

Ballistic glasses (per IAS above) or 'ski-mask'-type goggles (X800, what I wear).

Maybe a cap or boonie if I'm feeling fancy ;)

If you're fearing for yer teeth, get a gum shield/mouth guard - face masks are for whimps :D

Are they the type with the lower face protection? I take it they are comfortable in the warmer weather....

Its more for the lower face... IE. a whimpy mask or gum shield ;) Just looking to know whats the best solution apart from going lower face commando :o

Goggles are the minimum at hrta, though lots of people wear the glasses, there was talk of them getting stricter on it.

I saw at least one lad get a ricochet in behind his glasses before.

Would a dust-mask give any lower face protection? Since I'm a cheap-ass I had a look around B&Q at the weekend (actually, GBB-pistol propane was one of the reasons I was there) and I wonder, is any of the face protection from hardware stores useful? A lot of it is pretty pricey, I might add.

Just wearing goggles is sort of working on the basis that some damn fool doesn't pepper your face on full auto from 3 metres, right? ;)

The only reason I ask is just bought a full face neoprene mask for my safety glasses but now im wondering will this be as comfortable as the full face mask when its warm.... Does anyone have a 1/2 neoprene mask and would they be the best option?

that rule is being enforced now at hrta, goggles only, if there is a gap around the edges of the glasses, no matter how small, they are no good

personally i just wear my guarder c4's, both winter and summer, i used to wear a scott paintball mask last summer for a while, but it got very warm and i've now gone off full masks as they are too difficult to use sights with

i've gotten shot in the face a few times, bursts at reasonably close range too, and while they do hurt, it's not that bad and well worth the extra comfort of not wearing a full mask. If i was going to wear anything to cover my face it'd probably be a loosely worn shemagh

yeah as KD said, using the gun sights is the man reason i dont like full face masks. i do have a neoprene facemask that covers the lower face though and if your worried about getting hit in the teeth then that would be perfect, one thing about neoprene though is that air doesnt get through it very easily and when your running and trying to breath in deep it can be a bastid even with te vent holes,.

i've been hit full on in the face at less then a meter range (old indoor HRTA)yet i still prefer to go with a decent pair of guarder airsoft glasses, as KD said, it stings but its not too bad. i have worn a full face mask for convienience though as glasses and goggles fog up alot. i have some heavy duty constuction goggles that i have given to mel which i have found to be realy good and have never fogged up yet. i'm also looking to try out the full head mask that MIA stock soon to give it a go.

I personally use a pair of goggles and a neoprene half mask and find it fine. I often pull down the half mask though because they can get very warm. I've been hit in the face with it on and with it off and although it does dull the hit, the strike isn't that sore anyway.
I've taken blue fire from a couple of meters and had it draw a small amount of blood when not wearing a mask, though to he honest, i've bled more from shaving cuts and I didn't even feel it happen.

I too prefer to go with shooting glasses/goggles over facemask.
I use the ISS Advancer V12s (see post in review section) and love them. All the benefits of glasses with the safety of goggles. Perfect.

I've been shot in the face a couple of times as well. The worst I came off with was a shot on the lip, which caused a little bruising, but it wasn't bad at all. Knuckles are far far worse.

Thanks for the heads up lads..... I always thought that full face cover was compulsary particulary at the HRTA. If not then Im sure I will get through the summer months with glasses / goggles alone.....

really? its a quarter past 4....

i have a neoprene mask the half one and i find it excellent. it definitely takes the sting out of a bb round....you do need the airsoft ones however as they are a bit looser and a bit thicker..

I stole a dust mask from work with that very intention but never used it. I did fire some bbs at it though, no penetration even at under a foot away. They where not your bog standard dust masks though. It was a "particulate respirator" (model: 3M 8822) they where kind of padded and very snug. You would need to colour them somehow but the only problem I see with doing this is you breath in through the fabric of the mask so painting it might mean your breathing is very restricted. There is a valve on the front that lets your breath out which you could remove but then there's the chance a bb could fly in there. The main reason I'd want to wear a mask is to stop bb's going into my mouth.

I had a quick thumb through the medivac and safety direct catalog, there's some cool stuff in it if you where going for a sci-fi look. Some of the full face respirators look like swat type stuff you'd see in movies but it's all for industrial use so some of it is up on €400 the cheapest stuff is around €90 but it's pretty much guaranteed to stand up to airsoft abuse. I'll be getting a set of google's off them next chance I get, there in the disposable category and under €10.

avoid cheap goggles, when it comes to the one absolutely essential piece of safety equipment, it's not something you should skimp on

Do NOT get those neoprene things.
I have one, my buddy got one.
Neither of us could get them to fit properly and after about 10 seconds of wear it causes your face to heat up ruining your goggles.
If you want face protection get a full face mask with mesh eye protection, or if you dont mind bein shot in the face get the shooting glasses.
If you intend on using a scope you wont be able to use the mesh and most types of full masks. The mask gets in the way of aquiring eye relief and the mesh makes it awkward to see through scope itself.

Text speak is the new english.

TxtSpk (to give it it's official technical name) is not the new English. There is no new English. Text speak is for text messages at best, I hate seeing it even there. It's an incomprehensible language with absolutely no use on the internet. You have a full keyboard in front of you with unlimited space to type. I suggest for the sanity of everyone on this forum, you use it.

I also suggest you read the forum charter, specifically this part:
    * No text speak, there are more then 160 characters available here so there is no reason to use it.
    * Please try to watch spelling and grammer as well as using paragraphs. There aren't any bonus points for it, but simple things like this make it a lot easier to read posts.

Well then, I guess TxtSpk is the new text

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

No it's not. There is no new anything with regard to the English language in any form, spoken or written, grammatical or pronunciative, unless Oxford declares it.
oK, sO i wIlL nOt USE tExT SpEAK HERe tHen.

That example would be covered under grammar in the charter.

As someone who is know for his typing errors, I can't understand why anyone would deliberately insert them into their messages.
