IMO Setanta. Calzaghe v Hopkins confirmed, beat that Sky!! Also Woods v Tarver , Enzo M v Haye. Plus they seem to cover most of the big US fights.

Well , One must remember that Setanta is in the middle of a takeover as far as im aware.
Setanta's strategy was probably to hook huge numbers of subscribers on board at a very cheap cost , ... (in comparison to sky anyway).
the large number of subscribers is a fantastic bargaining chip when selling the company.

It all seemed too good in rip-off ireland ! no lenghty subscription periods , no bundles with hidden expenses etc !!

We can expect the new owners to change all that, and get more in line with the regular rip-off patterns.

But it may not go through , and Setanta may continue to be a good-value Irish owned company... if this is the case then pick Setanta over Sky all day long !!
sky are the axis of evil , for tv sport !!... especially responsible for the huge decline in boxing over the last 10 years .

Sky are now promoting the Williams-Quintana fight to be aired on friday !
the fight is over since last weekend , and any fan worth their weight in salt has seen it either on the streams or on youtube.
They will however break the bank for 1 decent match-up a year, the last one being the Hatton-PBF fight, and they then slapped a 30 euro additional ppv fee.

Bids to TV rights are submitted blind , and the winner is the station with the highest offer. Sky had it all wrapped up without any competition for years, and along came setanta and blew them away with massive bids, nicking some of the big commercial fights , Some people here called it the "New home of Boxing"

All in all , Setanta is the way to go.

Well F-me , Just looking now and Sky have actually signed up to air a live heavyweight fight !!

Wladimir Klitschko v Sultan Ibragimov will be on @ 23rd Feb

Now i look like a total pratt, after all me giving out !!

They'll also show the Kiko Martinez v Munroe scrasp on march 7th.

Remember that Setanta can be bought too.

They signed a 3 fight deal to show Hattons next 3 fights before the Castillo fight and as soon as Hatton got the mega fight with Mayweather Sky bought them out knowing the potential box-office return.

So if Sky think a fight is worth having they can just buy the rights off Setanta.

Taylor v Pavlik is confirmed on Setanta

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 968 ✭✭✭ODD-JOB

Yeah , lets hope |Taylor shows his heart this time round too !!
I think I'm the only one who thinks Pavlik is super-over rated ?
Well, he has got to the top thru merit , but I'm not subscribing to the mega-hype surrounding him by cammentators, news reports , message boards etc.

I wouldnt be surprised if Taylor ko's him real early.
Ill have to check out his record, but i cant remember him fighting a whole lot of big-name fighters..... in such a golden division !

if setanta have the calzaghe VS hopkins fight can it be bought as a once off as PPV or do i need to sign up to a package.

cheers for the all the replies,
i was thinking setanta hands down at first cause of their recent coverage of fights, but just looking at sky they have friday fight nights (which i think is a mix of live british boxing and repeats of some american fights)

so still not sure, probably go with setanta

I think you have to purchase for a month but at €18 per month its a snip.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,549 ✭✭✭✭cowzerp

you pay the ppv and get everything else they have free for a month! it can be cancelled at any time, and rejoined any time!

Much prefer Setanta. I cant stand Ian Darke - he has ruined many fights for me with his repetitive holier than thou twaddle.
