CG125 if they still make them were a very reliable 4 stroke beginners bike. Personally I would avoid a scooter because of their image and small wheels when they hit a pot hole. :D

I don't know if an insurance company would even quote you for an nsr80/125, and if they do it would be somewhere around 3k. The nsr is quite a quick bike and hence a high insurance category, not to mention you've got 0 experience and your 16.

For a first timer at 16 I'd go for something a little less sporty, when you get your test and build up a bit of no claims bonus you'll be in a much better position to get any bike you want.

yeah colm c is rite. I got my first official bike last year and I stuck it out with an aprilla rs50 insurance was still high but nothing compared to what it would have been on a 125.
Stick with a small engine for your first year, not only for the insurance costs but drivin on the roads is a lot diff than in the fields (I found out the hard and sore way):D.

Hey Zascar, nice bike! Just a quick question, would I be right in saying it qualifies as category A1 (124.7cc)? I was thinking about a CBR 125 myself in a year or two, but would want a bike I go use for a cat A driving license as opposed to A1.

My first bike was an Nsr50.. had it for 5 months to kill time before i got a car. They are an excellent bike, i never had one problem. The insurance with quinn was 1240. After the five months i got 760 odd back...Jesus it was a great bike. Sickened i sold it:(. Petrol wise, i did about 2000 kilometers on it and didn't put in more than 50 euro petrol:rolleyes:

Also i did a 50 mile trip on it every week for two months and it motored on perfeclty. I'd 100% reccomend it. Also when i was selling it i got over 25 calls within 2 weeks. I sold it on my first call:D
