I've recently heard of a Pub/Party boat has been approved for the river liffey. Supposedly insurance for it costs 4Million euro for the year... Only rumours ive heard now!

Anyone know anything about this, as I would like to book it for a College gig possibly!

I've seen it. It's down the quays a bit, near Sir John Rogersons Quay (except on the North Side.)

    It's a bit of a walk...

Highly unlikely. That's just shy of €11,000 every night of the year just for insurance. I've seen that boat & doubt it's worth €1m. Probably be closed by Summer as it's too far down (way past the clarion).

yea i thought it sounded crazy...but it is ireland!

Possibly cost of running it plus cost of boat maybe...

hey guys. yeah i work for the company so ill tell you all about it.

the boat is called the "Cill Airne" and its owned by the same crowd that owns flannerys , the palace, nancy hands, vaughans and a few other places . it cost 4 million to get it to where it is now . that was the cost and the refurbishment all all that stuff.

its not hoity toity at all, its a very nice bar/restaurant but by no means for toffs only. i cant recomend the food there highly enough.

its definatly wont be closed down. one reason. they have enough money to keep it open till the end of time, not to mention its down there across from building with 5000 business men and women working 5 minutes away

Hard to know really, people going on the piss around water is a bad idea whether the boat is in motion or tied at the quay.

The same "Cill Airne" that was moored in Cork Harbour doing nothing for what seemed like forever? I'd believe it took 4 million alone to even move it, never mind renovate it.

Didn't we have a pub/club boat on the Liffey before? I'm thinking the 80s or so.

Apparantly, if its the same one, it was the boat used to ferry people out to the Titanic, how it has come down in the world........

if it is that boat either ucc or cit were using it to train marine engineers but the equipment on board became outdated so it was sold.

It was CIT, the nautical science and marine engineering classes. I spent a couple of days up and down the river on her doing my transition year work experience. I was lucky enough to take the wheel right from the city to beyond Spike Island and back up. Mighty craic, if a little unnerving passing container ships in the narrow channel by Blackrock Castle.

yeah bit small all right but insurance companies don't like Alcohol + Gangway

Wasn't the MV Aran (old Manx ferry) something like this, well actually it was a tax write off but ,, eh no it was a tax write off so was never going to be viable.

How many does it hold, would it be available for bookings from the nearby National College of Ireland?? Contact details would be handy!

I presume it doesnt move or anything? Does it have a dancefloor etc.?

Sorry for all the questions but interested in using it for Rag week at end of februray for a different buzz!

no sure rag week parties would be outta the question. not into having locked people on it. we are going down for our xmas party next week and we have to be off the boat by 12 before we all get too drunk lol

i hope so man otherwise my subconcience invented a complete night out back in the late 90s when me and the gang from work went on a booze cruise.

said boat went from the same place (john rogerson quay (spl) ) sailed out passed the international limit and kept the bar open till past 2am.

ok i know that doesnt sound much but considering the only late night bars back then were the black abbot on abbey street it was a big deal.

i had a great time on it and the air vents proved to be great novelty bottle openers.:D so i could see this doing very well.

Haha, no worries! Just checked website, its kind of like the Excise in IFSC, they hate the students...which is a bit stupid considering we could be a serious money maker for them if they wanted... Lagoona all the way!

    get the boat!

i was on this a few weeks ago - its really nicely refurbished, loads of polished wood etc, looks fab and feels really special. Got pub grub which was really yummy and not too dear. Be lovely in this sunny weather and excellent venue for a party or wedding. Would guestimate that it holds 150-200 people. Also there is a ferry from the south docks across to the boat which is about a € each way. Would really recommend this place for a night out or long weekend brunch!

the "moon river" in carrick on shannon has been doing this for decades! (and it actually cruises along the shannon for an hour). late drinks!

The best thing they could do with that boat at night is sail it from Dublin every evening at 7pm out to International waters ( I think its 12 miles but the coastguard wont be checking=) and then run a proper full on casino from it. Then take it back in at 5am and unload the broke and drunk punters.

Then they could clean it up and sail it again at 9am and run it as an abortion clinic. The controversy would be so big that business would boom:D

Why would they need to do that sure there are loads of casinos in Dublin.

i think it would be an awful tragedy if that boat was full of dubs and went out to sea and then sank killing all onboard!
