How do you want your rating system for episodes?

It would appear that some people dont like 1 to 10 and some people dont like the new system either so lets put it to a vote!

How do you like your Lost ratings? 42 votes

    1 to 10
    0% 0 votes
    1 to 5 stars
    35% 15 votes
1 to 5 relating to the show, Eg: "An exciting as a "slo-mo" flashback to Kate mud-wrestling Juliet"
    16% 7 votes
    Instead of 1 to 10 it would go 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42
    28% 12 votes
    Other (suggest your own)
    19% 8 votes

    hex.

failing that, 1-10 or 1-5 is grand. Don't bother with the related to show text crap.

that would appeal too much to the Lostie's inner nerd

    and I think we're nerdy enough ;)

    :)

I've been meaning to try out a hex poll for the last age but I keep forgetting it.

I think just using "4 8 15 16 23 42" as the different poll options would be fine. The numbers are ascending and its lost-centric

I always preferred 1-5 as opposed to 1-10, àla the 24 forum (although the '4' and '5' options didn't get much use during Season 6 :p)

Tweak the 1-10 idea a bit. Have it going up in .5 increments instead. Sometimes an episode isn't good enough to deserve an 8 but isn't bad enough to deserve a 7. In this case 7.5 would work nicely.

Also another option of 9.9 should be included for episodes that are really, really, really, really, really, really, really good but not perfect and therefore not deserving of a perfect 10.

Also add in an option for people who haven't watched the episode. Another option for people who did watch the episode but aren't sure what rating to give it would be needed too.

Seriously speaking though I think Leimrod's idea is a good one.

    I dont think 2, 3, 4 or 5 got much use in Season 6 of 24;)

Why are there so few options in this poll? This is outrageous :p

I personally prefer the new system, as a regular forum stalker rather than an active poster I will abstain from the vote and let you regulars sort it out. I will continue silently reading spoilers that I shouldn't :).

I like the new rating system but the first option on episode 2 should be tweaked a bit because some of us are girls and would rather not watch a slo mo mudfight between Juliet and Kate.

i'd like to see the lost numbers used.

but how about having a different rating system for every episode?

I tried that once.. and people were confused.

Christ.. now ye're just trying to make things difficult for me? :D

    I'd prefer:

    Excellent
    Good
    OK
    Poor
    Bad

It's alot easier for us poor shmoes to understand than this numerical mumbo jumbo.

THANK you! Somebody who agrees with me.

I say make it "slo mo mudfight between Juliet and Kate/Sawyer and Sawyer clone [who appears in late season 4 (fingers crossed) after the Losties stumble upon a cloning machine in another hatch!] chopping wood"

    Too long an option?

I don't get what is wrong with 1-10. I think 1-5 is very limiting

    1-10 was fine.

1-10 ftw. Good someone made a thread, I was thinking about making one today. :)

    How about something simple, like
    Good
    Not Good

Those happy with the episode vote Good, those generally unhappy with it vote Not Good.

Personally though I'd like to see the poll options using a 3-bit Gray Coding scheme. The options would then be, from top to bottom:
    4
    5
    7
    6
    2
    3
    1
    0

So the fools who vote top marks for every episode would automatically go for the 7, which wouldn't be top marks. It would therefore give a more accurate reflection of the episode.

    Seriously, we should do this!!!!!11!eleven!

Yeah, looks like 1 - 10 is going to win.

Christ, after all this debating.. turns out the way we've been doing it for 3 years is sufficient!

The poll isn't really fair though. Three of the choices are basically the same, i.e. some variant of 1-5, which splits the vote. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,727 ✭✭✭✭Sherifu

We need a poll about the poll! It's the only way to be sure.

Could we have 1-10 but beside each rating a disclaimer/guide.

E.g for 10, it would say something like: "this was a perfect episode, not likely ever to be surpassed this season, or ever"

    - 9 "A near perfect episode in every respect"-

    - 8 "Excellant viewing, sums up why I watch lost"

    - 7 "Good Episode, thouroughly enjoyable, but not a Season's best"

......and so on. On the end of the spectrum:

    - 1 - "Horrific TV, THIS IS THE WORST THING I HAVE EVER WATCHED ON TELEVISION"

    - 2 "Really poor showing, i'm tempted to stop watching the show".

    You get the picture.

I think this system would work best, certainly from preventing people giving 9'S and 10's consistently (you'll probably always get moody cnuts voting 1) which really should be used very sparingly when objectively rating anything. This would hopefully give alot more credibility to episodes that top polls with 8's or even......9's

E.g for 10, it would say something like: "this was a perfect episode, not likely ever to be surpassed this season, or ever"

I've probably given about 20 episodes the maximum mark over the 3 seasons, so I'd fall foul of this. I give 10/10 for what I consider a thoroughly entertaining 50 minutes of TV, other people reserve the 10/10 for the 'perfect' episode.

Everyone has their own method of scoring 1-10 and I think it works out overall.
In the linked thread, in uber-nerd mode (I was off work sick :)) I collated all the 3rd season scores on boards, and worked out the order of popularity of the episodes.
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055098238

Despite us all having different scoring methods, I think the order of episodes
proved that there has always been a level of consistency with the 1-10 regardless of any individuals method of allocating scores.
