    Hi folks,

I bought a house about a year ago and it has two sat dishes on the roof - don't ask me which direction they face, I have no idea. I assume the previous owner was very much into watchin TV. Anyways, I have NTL digital&broadband package, but I was thinking maybe I should get a receiver so I have more selection for upstairs which is not hooked up to NTL.
So the question - what type of receiver do I have to get? I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to that type stuff. Will any old receiver do, or there certain degrees of fancyness with receivers.
    Any advice greatly appreciated!!!

If you just want to pick up whatever channels are free, then just get a Free-To-Air (FTA) digital satellite receiver. There are many, many makes and models about. Lidl and Aldi sell basic boxes from time to time.

Brand wise, I find Technomate boxes good. They're relatively cheap and very reliable.

A used Sky Digibox can be had for very little money via eBay or your local paper.

Or on Adverts.ie, you'll pick up a second hand Sky Digibox for €25ish.
