Im just wondering if I can get opinions from people on dmc4 and whether or not its worth buying?
Could I just rent it for the weekend and finish it?or is there any replay value in it at all.
    Thanks in advance!

i downloaded the demo. i thought it was nothing special. seems to be mindless button bashing really. but my brother has played all 3 of the others and he really likes them.

i thought it would be something similar to "legacy of kain" (was a button bashing game but also had some great puzzles)

I'd ignore Nedd if I were you. It's a great game especially if you liked DMC 1 and 3. It's far from a button masher, the enemies in the demo are easy but there is an awful lot of strategy involved in the fighting very quickly in the game with lots of room for you to show off and create your own combos.

It definitely wouldn't be a game that you will finish after a rental. It's quite a long game and very tough to boot as long as you don't spoil it by going for the easy mode.

Nice, man. Jesus, it's an opinion.

Anyway, from what I have seen with DMC4, it is for the most part a button-bashing game with some nice, different boss battles in the middle and a few odd collect-items style puzzles.

I'd rate it slightly higher than Heavenly Sword tbh 7/10

    +1 ;)

It may seem like mindless button bashing from one perspective:rolleyes:, but if you played any of the previous games you know that this would cause death quite a lot! It's un****ingreal! The boss fights are all amazing! The graphics and story line rule, the moves are blistering and there is nothing like have a set of moves that just owns, struggling with bosses but getting in those last killer combos to seal the deal! ah yeah, im on the last boss so im gonna go play! ^^ BUY IT!

Nice one, no one has said much yet about the replay value though.Could i just buy it and then return it a week later as an unwanted present or should I say **** it and just buy it?
(its important to note how extremely broke I am at the moment)

But i loved the first one (still have it) but the other too,not so much....

yeah i downloaded the demo, and let me tell ya,its an absolutely crap game! button bashing is so boring, good lord!dont bothar with it......

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 383 ✭✭DILLIGAF

again, if it seems like button bashing at the start then fair enough, but you won't make it past mission 3 on devil hunter mode like that! You'll have yer ass handed to ya if you don't get some arena tactics going on! The mobs you take on later in the game are a serious pain in the ass with equally as powerful moves as Nero. I challenge anyone here who says its button bashing to complete it on devil hunter mode,it might look like button bashing but it's just a hell of a lot of quick thinking!

Thought DMC 3 was fantastic, much better than DMC 1 (DMC 2 was utter scutter). As for replay well it's not a game you will fly through and will keep you entertained for hours. If you can beat the game on Devil Hunter mode in a week without spending stupid amounts of time playing it then you must be some kind of gaming god. It will last a good while. As for replay there are a load of extra difficulty levels to unlock but personally they aren't for me. I've too many other games to play and the DMC games are tough enough the first time through. Just avoid the human mode since it's far too easy.

As for the people saying it's a button masher from the demo, they really haven't experienced all the game has to offer. Button mashing in this game a short way into it will get you killed. Not only do the tougher enemies require a huge amount of strategy to beat but you are also rewarded for how stylishly you take out the enemy, button mash and you won't get enough power ups although you will be dead long before the level end screen. Also stop being lazy and experiment with the combos, it's not like the demo gives you a limited amount of moves to start with.

I enjoyed the demo of DMC4, was in 2 minds about buying it but decided to grab it after playing that...
You're right though, demos don't always give you a good idea of what the full game will be like (racing games especially imo)

Just because you have to use combos does not make this game any less of a button basher, it just means you have to bash buttons in a certain order

load of me bollox, be warned though as personally I hate these types of games so my opinion is very negatively biased, I was hoping this would change my perspective on this genre but it didn't.

I played the demo and there was nothing there to make me want this game.

Well don't you technically bash buttons in every game? God of War is more of a button masher than this game and it definitely isn't like tekken were combos are just a case of button memorisation and timing although it does have some of the timing elements. It more about how to keep a quick succession of combos going without breaking the chain and using a large variety of them, including some very tricky juggle air combos. There's also some enemies that a certain strategy must be used to defeat them, running in head long just mashing the attack button to use the standard combo is going to get you killed fast. Devil May cry is as much about avoiding attacks as it is about dealing out damage. DMC 4 has more ways of dodging attacks and counter attacking than any other game in it's genre. Not meaning to be rude but if you haven't given the game a chance you aren't really qualified to give an opinion.

Can't justify the cash without trying it first - might rent.

would defo rent, demos arent really indicative these days

Its really a matter of personal opinion. You definetly could beat the game by mashing the sword button over and over. But some will prefer to not get hit, string moves together to reach a super smokin style combo as much as possible.

Its a huge hit in japan (which is obvious considering they occupy every single top rank in every mission online)
Personally i've played every one of the dmc games, and i thought it was a massive change from the previous games. The devil bringer adds a huge level to the combat and if you're pushed you can try and get the instant EX by hitting L2 after every single attack connects.
Even being able to play as dante for 8 or so stages with all his styles from dmc3 (probably overwhelming if you've not played 3 though)

Most of the extra difficulties won't appeal to many as the difficulty ramps up pretty heavily. But you can go back and improve you ranks or play the survival game "the bloody palace". Online rankings are amusing but as i said before, owned by the japanese. The bloody palace is ranked by region, pity ireland only has 26 people total ranked, we'll see how that goes in the future as people complete the game.

Theres a few movies on youtube if anyone wants to look at how the game was designed to be played, some of the japanese ones are impressive to say the least.

Personally.....best game on the ps3 so far for me.

Hey there,im guessing this threads been dead for a while but I just want to let people know that in the end I did splash out for the game and to be honest I was disappointed.Im probably gunna trade it in cuz there is NO replay value.
Damn capcom for making the first in the series too good!!

I haven't gone back to it in a while for one reason:

That ****ing portal level the second time through the jungle! It's almost as bad as the horrible one in the last level of Revenge of Shinobi!

Yeah thats nasty. I kind of accidented my way through it.

Personally I got alot of replay value out of it, if you enjoy this type of game the new unlockable moves can really alter the game play.

But then I love Dynasty Warriors game so I clearly like mass violence.

Weird, just read the stones in the central hub of that portal section. You just need to walk into whatever exit has the shadow behind you. From the looks at scores online i guess the irish players haven't grasped the fairly high learning curve. Once you get it, its too easy at the bottom two difficulties, but i could understand why people would hate it, its far from user friendly unless you've played the previous ones alot.

I enjoyed the demo, Looks and runs very well and similar vibe to the old games

I didnt find it to difficult (ive played all in the series) but I still wasnt too fond of it.Its just too repetitive although there was some great parts in it.
I just think the franchise has gone down hill imo. Dmc2 was a disgrace and Dmc3 had many poor parts eg the insane dificulty and that STUPID guitar/sword....grr

I don't think this is worth opening a new thread, but I detest this game and as far as I can tell, every time I save it and come back to it, I end up having to repeat a chunk of the game!

Yes, I am playing on the harder level, no I haven't played any of the previous instalments and yes, I am crap at it! Apparently, you can get an SSS combo...I think I've gotten an A or something (after B?)!

Anyway, I'm not looking for any hints or advice, I just wanted to went my fury at this tedious little game :pac:

All good until you said that. 10 string in tekken are that, they are not a thing that is used by anybody that knows how to play the game. The proper combos are juggles, set ups, wake up game etc and some is similar to whats going on in devil may cry
Same thing for both, if you learn if properly you will appreciate it more

Bought this for 11 quid sterling new off cdwow.

Just played the opening level fight against Dante and thought it's been appalling so far.

Will play it properly when I get off Oblivion.
