is it worth getting a tripod online?

are there savings to be made purchasing a tripod online? Im in the market for a portable yet sturday tripod ( most likely manfrotto). i can get the 190XB tripod, along with the 804RC2 STANDARD 3-WAY HEAD for abotu 200 quid in one of the main photographic stores in dublin city center( I dont want to mention shop names).

I bought a manfrotto neotec and a ball head from technikdirekt some time ago and saved a packet. So yes, it's definately worth getting a tripod online.

just to be sure before i buy, the 190XB is capiable of taking the weight of a Canon 400D with 300mm sigma lens?? should i try and stretch for the 055X or 055X DBOPRO?

Yes it is , the weight capacity is on the manfrotto site here , it will hold 5 kilos , that should be plenty.

That still leaves 2 kilo or so to spare. the 400D is just over half a kilo.

thanks guys. went with the 055 XPROB legs and the 804 RC 2 head.

206 euro, not including 12 euro delivery. very good price i think. Il let you know what I think of it when I get it.
