firstly, we don't use the term weapon around here, it may seem a bit overly-PC, but something only becomes a weapon when used to cause harm, i've amended the thread title to aeg (auto electric gun) instead.

As regards the loudest, not sure to be honest, most people tend to go for quiet instead of loud, but the noveske sound hog is supposed to make an aeg louder: http://www.landwarriorairsoft.com/acatalog/Front_Ends.html#a378

In my experience gas powered devices are louder than electric ones, the MAC-11 is very loud, as is the gas MP-40, any fully automatic gas powered device, seems to have a bit more oomph to the sound than electric ones. They're more expensive to run though, what with the price of gas and all.

Depends how you look at it, a load gearbox generally means a poorly nunning gearbox with bad shimming and such and thats not a good thing, forgetting the dodgy gearboxs the loudest aegs i found are v2 gearbox with a short barrel and you can always add on a nova flash hidder which adds a bit of punch to it. That makes a loud aeg but not really a good sounding aeg.

For me the best sounding aeg is the vfc ak aims i have the blow back makes a really nice metalic thump that completely covers the sound of the gearbox getting rid of that annoying sewing machine sound i hate :)

So am I right to think I'm not allowed to call my AEG a weapon on this board? despite it's whole weapon-like appearance , use and operation? If this is the case can you tell me why? Thanks.

Calling it a Weapon would imply that you want to kill, injure or threaten someone. I have several real steel guns and don't consider or refer to them as weapons for the very same reasons. Airsoft are toys simple as that.

weapons are made to wound and kill, aegs are designed not to do any harm they tag the target, aegs and anything in airsoft are not weapons

    You are right.

Appearances can be deceiving, can't they?

BTW, an AEG is not normally used as a weapon (unless you use it criminally and in doing so you then fulfill the legal definition of "weapon").

By 'operate like a weapon', I understand you mean to say 'operate like a firearm' ? (operating a firearm in a criminal way makes it 'operating a weapon') FYI, an AEG (or any other airsoft replica tagger) does not operate like a (sub: real) firearm, nor can it be made to operate like a (sub: real) firearm.

The word is: AEG, GBB, NBB, springer (etc.) or "airsoft device" or "airsoft tagger", take your pick.

You people really need to get out more. I mean really, what the hell are you smoking?? I went airsofting yesterday. I arrived with a boot full of weapons and went to war. At no stage was anyone killed, injured, and no bank was robbed. That's because I brought AIRSOFT WEAPONS, not real ones. You can argue all you want about the correct terms to use but if anyone referred to their AEG as a weapon I wouldn't blink an eye. I'm surprised there's so many 'politically correct term' Police on this board. does this mean I'm now going to be banned for calling my AEG a weapon? That seems to be the way this place works...

    FFS.

It's semantics but it's also part of the forum charter. I didn't make the rules, but I try to follow them. I suggest you do the same, it's just good manners, if you went into your friends home and he told you not to smoke inside, would you light up anyway because you disagree with his opinion on passive smoking?

A weapon is something that is designed to kill or do harm, airsoft devices are designed to look like real world weapons while being harmless and safe to operate. Because they are not designed to be capable of doing harm they are not strictly speaking weapons, although they do look quite similar to them.

While you may believe that you went to war with a car boot full of weapons on the weekend, I would contend that what you actually did was go out to an airsoft site with a boot full of toys and played a game of soldiers, the fact that you were playing with toys probably accounts for the fact that no one was killed or injured.

It's like this, Airsoft is in it's infancy here in Ireland, having people going around referring to AEGs as "Weapons" can put our sport at risk, no joke...I don't like it but that's the way it is so i deal with it, you should too...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 573 ✭✭✭rgt320q

A weapon is a tool employed to injure, defeat, or destroy an adversary.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure airsoft doesn't come under that definition.

Hey guess what, you don't have free speech on here, you've been told the term weapon is not to be used on this forum, if you dont wish to abide by that rule then please leave.

Now I realise this may seem a little heavy handed and overly pc, but as has been pointed out above, the use of the word weapon is highly discouraged in relation to airsoft as something only becomes a weapon when used as such, even real steel shooters dont use the term weapon.

Now back on topic please gents, I would rather not have to lock this thread.

well i have a g&p zombie killer, really small barrel...and its loud...the loudest i have ever used...a right good thump of it...

TM AK's are fairly loud (possibly other brands as well??). A good clunking sound to them. It's one of the things I like about my AK Beta Spetsnaz.

Well I'm off to use a weapon to butter some bread. Then I'm gonna play a game of baseball with a weapon and maybe throw some weapons at my dartboard.

...you only call something a weapon if it is used as such.

Easy Tiger, its just that a lot of hard work has gone into making sure that Airsoft, as a sport in this country gets off to a good start. And unless your not up to speed on current affairs at the minute, the term weapon raises all sorts of concerns.

You know, I know, we all know, but on this forum the term is AEG. Kapish??
As far as being banned, if you take the pi*s, you will be warned, then banned. So,,,where did you go skirmishing? anywhere interesting? Louth, thats a fair trip but it might be worth it.:)
