After listening to the live meeting the following information is available for SQL 2008 certifications

There will be 3 MCTS certs as compared to the 2 in the SQL 2005 track. In 2005 there are 2 MCTS certs, 1 for the DBA and DB Dev (DBD) and there are 3 MCITP certs.

Now on SQL 2008 there are 3 MCTS, 1 DBA, 1 DBD, and 1 BI.

    These will be

    70-432 .. Imp & Maint
    70-433 .. Dev
    70-448 .. BI Dev & Maint

From that, there will be 3 MCITP certs, the same as 2005. MCITP DB Admin, MCITP DB Dev, MCITP Business Intelligence

The main reason for splitting the SQL 2005 MCTS into 2 seperate MCTS certs in 2008 is because, it was a bit generic. It had elements of DBA and DBD that may mean that DBAs would have to learn DBD stuff just pass the exam, and vice versa.

As you may have noticed or may not.. The new generation of MS exams have very few electives unlike the older gen stuff. For example the MCITP DBA on 2005 is a 3 exam track unlike the MCDBA which allowed you to use certain Dev and MCSE exams to cover as electives or in some cases core.

There will be one exam upgrade paths from 2005 to 2008. There will be NO upgrade path from MSDBA to SQL 2008 certifications.
