    Hi,
is anyone familiar with the condition dsycalculia?. I am currently tutoring a boy aged 12, with learning disabilities due to suffering from cerbal palsy, in maths. While in other subjects his progress is quite good his mats continues to be a major problem. his resource teacher in school does extra maths and i work with hin for approx 1hr30mins every week on maths. The more i read about duscalculia the more it fits with what i'm observing with this boy.
If anyone has any tips for teaching maths to children with this condition i would appreciate it. or if anyone knew where i could get resource books to deal with this issue.
Would be interested to hear other peoples experience in this area
    Thanks, Sinead

I don't know anything about it, but this website might be useful:

I was tutoring a uni student who had dyscalculia. She was unfortunately learning accounting and finance.

I wasn't really sure how to address the issue tbh. There was issues like adding 200 + 400 and getting 6,000,000.

I concentrated a bit on stuff like asking her to use the calculator and write down exactly the number she saw i.e. bypassing the mental processes and allowing the calculator to do that part of the work.

maths can be a tough one . it the whole logic of the maths taking each step in order and completing it before moving on to the next , 200 + 400 = 6,000,000 the four and the two getting six and adding six zeros, in some aspects this works to some logic , it might not be right but the logic works, its kinda doing a problem with five steps and never doing the 4th one but still trying to work it out , tag the root steps of the problems to somthing other than math steps , try useing visual aids , word baloons , try reading some stuff on n.l.p it helps to explain how to tag certain areas of the brain en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuro-linguistic_programming
