    IMDb

Anyone else watch this? Only watched the first episode.. but it was quite enjoyable in "an Ally McBeal only with a better cast and likeable lead" kinda way!

Great cast it must be said. Such as Jonny Lee Miller ('Trainspotting, 'Hackers' - very VERY under-rated actor!), Victor Garber ('Alias'), Natasha Henstridge ('Species') and the excellent Tom Cavanagh ('Ed', 'Scrubs'). And an appearance in the pilot by George Michael too.

It does seem a bit Ally McBeal-ish.. but Jonny Lee Miller's character is a helluva lot more watchable than that waif Calista Flockheart.

Yep, I liked the first episode alot. It was quirky and LOL funny in places.
    Worth keeping an eye on.

I watched it. Some LOL moments. I may watch another.

I thought the dialogue was 'by numbers' and Eli's PA is a cariacture.

2nd episode wasn't great to be honest!

Storyline was dull and un-interesting. And performances were wishy-washy especially from the girl who played Maggie (her comic-timing and general acting were atrocious).

Though never thought I'd see Mr Bristow dance to a George Michael song... though bizarre. Really.. really.. bizarre!

Still, i'm gonna tune in for another week or two. Though bring back Tom Cavanagh for a couple more episodes - could watch him in anything. Fantastic actor!

only saw the first one, will watch the 2nd later today.

Anyone still watching? The last 3 episodes (the baseball murder story arc) were fantastic, especially the most recent one (episode 8). The last few scenes were very well acted and tugged at the heartstrings.

I think the whole premise has been moved up a notch with the
    outing of Eli's condition
, and there have been some terrific scenes because of it.

I don't think there is any word on whether it will make it past episode 13, but I hope so.

    Haven't watched any since episode 2! :o

Might give it a look now so... must avoid big spoiler! :D

Having just finished watching the latest episode (11), this is one of the best new TV shows in a long time. If it got more advertising, I believe it could be as big as Heroes.

4 thumbs up for Episode 12. If this show doesn't get renewed (in favour of American Panda Idol on Ice or some such shit), then there is no justice in the world. The last 5 mins were great TV.

Roll on Thursdays finale. Wonder how the season will end?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 100 ✭✭ParalysedBeaver

Agreed. The song as he finished talking in the office is just pure win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

So did Eli live or die? I'm not going to spoil it, but I laughed, I cried, I smiled and I applauded the cleverness of the writing.

Series finale or Season finale? Hopefully the latter.... In a world of by-the-numbers police procedurals and crap reality TV, any program that can fuck with your emotions like this one deserves another run.

If it is the Series Finale, at least there was closure (no cliffhanger).

I'll be watching out next month for ABC's Fall Schedule announcement with interest.

Yes, there is closure, but they can't leave it at that. As he said>>>
    "I've got more to do."

Color tags don't work for spoilers because some themes are dark (so white text shows up without highlighting)

Have been watching this and I think it is entertaining.

The very first few episodes might not be as good as the later ones.

Thumbs up for the 12th episode, haven't seen the finale yet but I do hope it gets renewed for a 2nd season!

Watched the last episode the other day and have to say that it was an excellent closer. While not a satisfactory conclusion it did offer some closure though I want at least one more season. I remember watching the previews last September and picking it as one of the most interesting of the new shows.

The first few episodes were a bit slow but it quickly picked up and became one of the only new series that I looked forward to every week.

According to digiguide, it's starting this week on RTE2 at their usual viewer-friendly time slot of Thurs night/Fri morning at 02:20. Another job for Sky+.

    WTF, RTE.
It deserves a MUCH better slot than that. :(

Following in the footsteps of Hugh Laurie, James Purefoy and Ian McShane, Jonny Lee Miller is the latest British actor making a splash on US TV. In Eli Stone, the Trainspotting actor portrays a San Francisco lawyer who discovers that an inoperable brain aneurysm is causing him to have bizarre hallucinations. We caught up with Jonny to get the lowdown on the comedy drama - and find out why his character Eli keeps having surreal visions of George Michael.

How would you describe the show?
"I play an attorney called Eli Stone who keeps having strange visions, which often include George Michael. Eli works at a high-powered law firm and he’s kind of a reluctant hero. He ends up doing good things, but that’s not what he sets out to do."

What does Eli Stone make of all these visions?
"He doesn't know. That's the major point of the show and the major drama for him – and that's the journey that you have to go on with him. He doesn't know what’s happening to him. He's completely confused and conflicted and scared."

How does George Michael come into the show?
"In the pilot episode, Eli sees George Michael in his apartment singing on his coffee table. And then he sees him at the office where he works. The relevance of George Michael is all about the song he's singing, which has a relevance to Eli's life and it leads him to a certain case. There are also some later visions, too, which involve some of George's music as well – although not all of them do. They're not all musical visions, either. Some of them are dragon-based or earthquakes. And then, many episodes later, George comes back as himself."

    Why George Michael?
"It's all to do with the song and what the relevance of the song is to Eli's life. It leads him to another person from his past."

Was George Michael always the first choice for Eli’s visions?
"He was. I might be wrong about this, but I believe he was the first choice and then it was changed because they thought he wasn't going to be able to work on the show – but then it happened. "

    Can George Michael act?
"He was very good. I mean, he plays George Michael, so it’s pretty natural to him. It’s territory I believe he's familiar with and has played before."

Does he set himself up for laughs or is it a straight-laced performance?
"We kind of set him up a bit because I treat him like a vision, but he comes back later in the season where he has to act. He's very natural actually – and he has a valid point to make. A lot of the shows deal with real issues involving health or education or other certain issues – and when it comes to the one that is involved with the show that George is in, he speaks very eloquently about the subject. So, yeah, it was good. He was really good."

Do you have a dialect coach to help you perfect the American accent needed for the role?
"I do. I did a lot of work on the accent before I started the show. I take that very seriously. I have to say that because if I don't get it right, I've got no business being here."

Was it really hard to adjust to the gruelling schedule that accompanies a series like this?
"It's hard. It is very hard work. Actors always sound like idiots when they say that, but trust me – it’s true. There are some extremely long hours, but it's bloody good fun, too. I wouldn’t change anything for the world."

Eli Stone airs Mondays at 9pm on Sci Fi

Sigourney Weaver is to play a therapist opposite Jonny Lee Miller in US TV series Eli Stone - and now she wants her own sitcom.

The Alien star channelled her own psychiatrist in the upcoming second season premiere, which airs in America on 14 October, and the episode gave her a hunger for more TV.
She says, "I would consider a half hour comedy with a wonderful ensemble."

Katie Holmes also guest starring in Season 2

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,588 ✭✭✭JP Liz

Actor Jonny Lee Miller has praised Katie Holmes' forthcoming cameo in his hit U.S. show Eli Stone, insisting he was blown away by the star's "amazing" performance.
The British actor, who plays the title character in the small screen comedy, was wowed by Holmes' professionalism on-set - and even more impressed by her musical abilities.
The actress dons a skin-tight unitard to perform a saucy song and dance number in the episode, which will be aired in America on 21 October.
And Miller has nothing but kind words for the former Dawson's Creek star.
He tells Access Hollywood, "She is amazing in the show. She was just a really, really nice person to have around. Really great work ethic. She was awesome.
"She has a fantastic voice and she has an amazing number."

    Thread renamed to cover spoilers.

Watched episode 1 of the new season last night, and it was really good. Without getting too spoilerish, it starts off 3 months after Eli's operation, and he is working with a psychiatrist/therapist (played by Sigourney Weaver) to see if he is psychologically fit to return to court.

A couple of great twists in the first 20 minutes, and the dramatic destruction of a building (putting a cast member at risk) mean that this is a fantastic opening to the season.

    Loved it.

Barring an unforseen burst of viewers, ABC will soon say farewell to "Pushing Daisies," "Dirty Sexy Money" and "Eli Stone."
As is the practice, ABC officials have told producers of those shows they're not planning to pick up more episodes.
The network's execs actually loved the shows' creativity, but viewers didn't share that feeling. One insider suggests the door is slighly ajar, but the odds of a pickup remain very small.
Each of the shows was initially picked up for a 13-episode run. The remaining episodes of each will air and then the shows will go to the scrap heap.
It's been a particularly unusual season for broadcast television, which is attempting to rebound after last season's protracted and damaging strike by members of the Writer's Guild of America.
When the strike ended, the networks held some shows, such as "Pushing Daisies," to restart this season, while others went back on the air.
"Pushing Daisies" stars Lee Pace as a guy who has the power to bring the dead back to life with a simple touch. However, if he touches them again, they're gone for good.
"Eli Stone" centers on a lawyer, played by Jonny Lee Miller, who is troubled by visions. And "Dirty Sexy Money" is a prime-time soap about a wealthy New York family.
Meanwhile, starting Dec. 11, ABC's "Private Practice" will move to Thursday at 10 p.m. And on Jan. 28, "Life on Mars" will begin airing on Wednesday at 10 p.m.

    Source TV Guide
This much is certain — Everwood alum Gregory Smith is among the ensemble of guest stars on board for the 13th episode of Eli Stone's second season. Given recent events and scheduling announcements made by ABC, that outing would appear to be the legal drama's swan song.
Though unconfirmed, it appears that Smith will be playing the boyfriend of a deceased college coed whose parents refuse to give up her heart for a transplant because the recipient does not share in their religious beliefs.

fingers crossed its given a chance to survive - one of the best shows around

Is it completely dead in the water?

How many episodes in Series 2 (aired or unaired)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Looks bad.... epguides are showing 26 episodes, 4 unaired - when they give an 'unaired' total, its a dead duck. The 4 might surface eventually (probably on sci-fi channel over here rather than ABC)

Rté showed S2 Ep3 last night. Surely they'll have access to the unaired episodes eventually?

    (I know that's 18 or so weeks away, but still. :D )

Some unresolved story issues, but they tidied it up as best they could given the circumstances, I suppose. Always good to see Tom Cavanagh on the telly.

I'll miss it now it's gone.

On a Thursday night/Friday morning, theres now a post midnight, stupid-O-Clock, insomniacs only gap available for yet another show that Rte consider not good enough for Irish prime time (24, Medium, Entourage, Mad Men, Pushing Daisies, The Cleaner etc etc etc..) .

I Wonder what they'll fill it with. Trust Me? Burn Notice? Breaking Bad?

I can answer my own question.

    None of the above.

The Thursday 1 a.m. former Eli Stone time slot will see the Irish début of long-cancelled Jimmy Smits vehicle "Cane" which departed from American screens, never to return, after 13 episodes in early 2008.

Despite a strong Latino cast (Smits, Hector Elizondo, Nestor Carbonell (Richard from "Lost") & Rita Moreno) this soap with the Business elements of Brothers & Sisters & Dirty Sexy Money, and the family troubles elements of a legal Sopranos seemingly haemorrhaged viewers in droves, and never looked like getting a second series.
