Hole-in-one, who's had them?

I had my first hole-in-one on New Years Eve last, at the par 3 16th in Knightsbrook. 174 yards straight at the hole, hit the front of the green, bounced twice and rolled straight in. As it happened we were playing in a four man team event and I didn't get the card. I did get a lovely bottle of Champagne though. I don't know whether I can claim the insurance because I have no card, anyone have experience of this?

I was wondering how many of you have had a hole-in -one!
Where was it and what were the circumstances? Did you hit it well or was it a complete duff? If it was in competition did you claim the insurance?

Never had one myself. I've hit the pin a few times and holed iron shots from the fairway, but never a hole in one. Was playing with someone who had one. Drilled a seven iron into the wind with a draw - right at the pin. Great shot. I can't remember which course it was, but it was in the Carlingford Challenge about four or five years ago.

What's this insurance thing you speak of?

    NEVER! For feck sake! ;)

Holed a second shot 8 iron to a par 4 in Portarlington Junior Scratch a few years ago -I'd just eagled a par 5 so two eagles in one round was special.

Playing with a guy who hit a 6 iron hole in one at Forrest Little in the Lumsden cup a few years back. Straight in the hole from 175.

Never had one. I've holed a fairway wood but never a tee-shot.

I once hit a 7 iron that pitched on the lip of the hole then spun back just missing the hole again.

When you play in a GUI competition you are covered by insurance, including hole-in-one cover. I think the original idea was that, when you got one you had to buy the whole club a drink in celebration! That was before the days of drink driving laws. Thats my understanding anyway, I am open to correction.

Had my one and only ace nearly 20 years ago playing Lucan's par-3 4th hole when the tee was situated over the road on the grounds of the Spa Hotel. Hit a PW. Miss that old tee box I do.

Never had the pleasure and actually dont know anyone who has!

Came close a couple of times. Latest one was last year during the match play. I was one up with three to play and nailed the tee shot to a couple of inches it then spun back a bit (guess what I missed the putt but won the hole!)

I got one on my 3rd round of par 3 up at the barrow in stepaside, think it was only 126yds or so. Still haven't quite taken to the game though, maybe because I tend to finish on around 70 on the par 3 courses when I do play!

Something else just occurred to me! I had hole-in-one on the 31st of December 2007. It was about 11.00am I think. Was that the last hole-in-one of 2007?

Had one last year on the 7th at Waterford Castle. 7 wood straight at the pin. Wasn't in a comp though just a friendly game with the lads. Still had to buy them a drink though.

Never had one myself, but i'm playing tomorrow so i'll try extra hard:D

Amusing story, was playing in Letterkenny GC with a friend, we were about 14yr and at the 130yard 8th. He hit a wood (?) thinned it, bounced, bounced, bounced, bounced, bounced, bounced ran straight in the hole. Couldn't believe it.
About 2 weeks later the two of us were out again, this time with my friends brother, playing the 5th (140yards). We were talking about the hole-in-one that he got last week just as the brother tee'd off, flew straight at the hole, landed before the hole, bounced over it and spun back in, best hole-in-one i ever seen.
what makes it funnier is these two brother were always competing, arguing and out-doing each other.

    Neither of them play anymore.

Had my only one when I was 16 on the 17th in Woodbrook. Wasnt a great shot actually. I caught it pretty heavy and it bounced just short and rolled in. Was a good feeling at the time but I would have loved if it had have been a good shot :P

    I've had 3.

First at Dalmahoy in Scotland. Poor shot, a ribbed 4 iron.

2nd at Portmarnock Hotel course. 6 iron aiming for rightside of green to be safe, but hit a pull and holed it. Got lucky again.

3rd. 8 iron at St Margarets. Absolutely flushed, pitched 2 yards over flag and backed up into the hole. Nice.

I've had one. Out in Deer Park on the 12-hole par 3 course. Think it was the 7th hole, though not sure.

Hit an 8-iron and it just went straight at the pin like a homing pigeon. 2 bounces and it rolled in, dead weight. Don't even think it hit the pin.

We went to St. annes to play the par-3 course there one day and when we arrived there was a bit of a queue. People queue up alongside the hut, and the queue can run along most of the length of the 1st hole, which is totally visible from where you're standing.

Anyway, when it came our turn to tee-off, my uncle hit a sand wedge and got under it a bit too much and sent it a bit left. It went further in height than it went in length and there were a few sniggers and stifled laughs from the 'gallery'. 'cos it went so high though, the wind got a hold of it, and brought it back in.

It was the greatest and luckiest hole-in-one I've ever seen. No bounces, not even a 'clink' off the pin, just the sound of the ball rattling around in the hole. We all went nuts and started shouting and sh1t, and there was stunned silence from the crowds assembled.
