Looking for opensource (free) forum software like photopost (www.adverts.ie), in the way that you can upload a photo with the start of a new thread etc. Have used YaBB etc, but these dont have a photo facility (dont think so anyway) Anyone any ideas? Thanks.

The CMS Joomla! has lots of extensions some open source some commercial. Perhaps you can find what you want there?
    perhaps something like
    http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,1096/Itemid,35/
    would suit?

I don't want to hijack this thread but I've often wondered is this the one area where open source is weak? I've noticed vBulletin is used a lot all over the web (i.e. Boards and Ubuntu forums.) If open source is as good as vBulletin why isn't it used instead? Especially by these tech aware forums whose owners would be well able to configure and support their own Joomla or PhpBB installation.

    aarghh... a Hijacker!!! :)

no seriously. There are planty of solutions out there it just depends what you are up to. Click yourself through the official ubuntu forums and you will see that they are mostly using SMF, which is opensource.

So opensource uses mostly opensource and not the other way round. Perhaps the ubuntu forum you found is made by company which mostly relies on vBulletin...

They actually are the officially recommended Ubuntu forums that Oracle linked to (and it's linked from your like nick). Odd that they'd use vb alright. Never noticed before.

In reply to Oracle, Forums are the area that OpenSource lacks in. PhpBB3 recently received a boost when Joomla.org used it for their forums. SMF seems to be dissappearing into the moonlight now for some reason. PhpBB3 is climbing fast, and hopefully will meet the specifications of vBulletin soon. Also, in the race for the web, vBulletin started first, therefore, they got a head start, and more time to make themes, mods, etc.
