Our NTL/UPC channel Cartoon Network has been 'frozen' for 4 days now. The new Ben 10 movie is being shown on Monday, and we have a HUGE Ben 10 fan in the house. NTL are sending out a technician on Tues, but I don't understand how it could be a problem at the house, surely it is a problem with the signal for that channel needing to be reset at whereever the transmitter thing is??? I have tried re-tuning the station on the TV is there anything else I can try to fix it before Monday....

Yes have a word with your neighbours and get them to ring UPC if they have the same problem

Cheapskates UPC (NTL and Chorus) won't act on an area fault until at least 3 people ring in and complain.

Alternatively get a SKY dish and box and tell UPC what they can do with their "Service".

Had a fault myself recently with BBC1, rang up and told them, the customer service agent told me it wasn't an area fault as no one else had complained, then offered to book a service call, told her to not to bother. Two days later BBC1 is restored despite no engineer visit.

(I have recently had SKY+ installed and have written to UPC to cancel, I only rang to be one of the 3 calls so that my neighbours might get it fixed quicker)

By the way, I know the problem had to be an area fault as I am on an analog service. It is possible that you are the only one affected if you have a set top box.

The picture freezing on various channels was a frequent problem for me on UPC's analog service.

Note down all failures in service and demand a refund for any days when you don't have a full service. They don't refund unless you insist on it, but in my opinion charging for a service and then not providing it isn't much different than theft.

Thanks I checked and the same for person down the road, however they didn't ring UPC. I will ring again this morning and have sent them 4 emails.

Find another neighbour who is also affected and get them to ring too, they don't usually act unless they get THREE calls (I don't understand why 2 shouldn't be enough, but that's their policy).

Threatening to cancel, IF they put you through to the right person can result in quicker action.

Email? - don't bother the most recent email I sent took 2 days to get a reply that basically said someone will soon be in touch, that was 5 days ago!
Last November an email I sent took over a fortnight to get a similar reply and even longer to get acted on.
It appears that UPC/Chorus/NTL are incapable of communicating properly using email.
