Answering my own query, a bit of googling revealed Frank Black doing something at the band stand at 5, drinks after at grogans... How peculiar :)

Was impossible to hear anything as he wasnt allowed on the bandstand and played out in front of the gates instead. He posed for a few photos and got a police car ride back to his hotel. Good atmosphere in the crowd though.

Yeah I couldn't hear a thing but really enjoyed it. I went to the gig in vicar street and he talked a bit about it, I thought that was a police escort but apparently he got arrested

The man's a legend. I was lucky enough to be at the front for the precor and enjoyed the subsequent gig immensly. I felt bad for all the Francis Black fans at it though. Some stayed for the concert even after they realised their mistake. Hooray for them and their openmindedness.

I heard about that. Did they make an announcement or something? Id like to have heard what they though about it.

In the standard announcements they emphasised that Black Francis would be on stage at 21:15. Other than that people just started to figure it out themselves. There were small groups of well dressed women in their fifties I'd say interspersed with the black clad unwashed fans you'd expect to find at a Frank Black gig. They started checking with the bouncers and ended up very disappointedly leaving. It's a shame too as it was a great gig :)

The balcony was very empty for a sold out gig. This may have been due to the Francis Black seated fans leaving early. Of course tickets weren't been checked for location and a lot of people may have simply migrated downstairs. I had a great night anyway and so did an old couple just in front of us for some of the gig.

Enjoyed the day immensely. Black Francis signing my Big Lebowski tshirt left me in awe for ages. And the gig later was brilliant.

If it wasnt for phantom the precore might have been able to go ahead, I reckon most people turned up after hearing about it on phantom rather than the black francis website.

The precore *did* go ahead. He played about a million songs, it was great, that's me there in the videos. Hooray!

Hey, I'm new here. Was at the precore on Saturday as a 40th birthday pressie for my husband. Couldn't hear a thing but the atmosphere was good. Went to the gig later and I think we were the oldest people there - I was definately the only one not wearing black - what's that all about? I reckon Frank is more for our age group anyway as hubbie has been a fan from the beginning. Most of the kids there didn't know half his stuff and were expecting him to burst into a Pixies number - any Frank Black fan worth their salt would know he ain't gonna do that these days. Good gig, although I'm not a huge fan myself.

Ah yeah, I think I saw you. Midway back on the right facing the stage. Short grey hair?

Well I was there and I'm certainly not a kid and I wasn't wearing black either. I've been a fan since the Pixies days. I thought there was a good spread of older and younger Black Francis fans.

I was hoping he'd throw in a couple of Pixies songs at the end though. Bit disappointed that after he played through the new album (his best since the last Pixies) he played the ep which isn't out yet and the gig ended for me with a few songs which were very good but I didn't know.

Cant believe i normally walk back this way on a friday evening! Except i went Via Georges Street cos i was hungry! Would have been nice to see him even if i couldnt hear him, massive fan but had prior commitments so couldnt go friday night! Would have been nice to maybe get a picture if he had the time/patience.
Seen him last July and he put on a hell of a show. Bluefinger is a great album.

Eh, sorry no. At the very front, against the rail in front of the stage, short brown/blonde hair, dark green jacket, skinny jeans. (I'm 38 not 60!)
