my ipod (classic gen 5 vid) has gone funky

keeps skipping and not playing some songs - keeping having to restart it
sometimes the songs show up as missing in my itunes library when they are clearly there

now when i plug my ipod in it shows it as sycronising when there is nothing in my library - and has deleted all the stuff off my ipod

all stuff comes up as ''other'' and the music doesnt show up

    okay

now the ipod shows the songs as missing - so i deleted them and reloaded all the music into the library - no prob

transfered to ipod = unrecognised and only 750 of them

    this is crap

    Are you using iTunes?

Any chance you've used a PC with this ipod before?

    i currently am yes

i dont see how that affects it - altho i might try it on my macbook if it persists

only problem is - if i format it for mac = will a pc recognise it and be able to play its music?

if i format it for a mac - can a pc play songs off it via itunes?

First thing to try is to make sure the latest version of iTunes and your iPod software are installed.

I would be worried this could be a hardware issue.

here are some of my guesses ---
    1) plug the usb part of your ipod cable into your computer
    2) pick up your ipod and hold the center button and the the menu button down at the same time
    3) when the apple logo appears plug the ipod connector into your ipod.
    4) wait for itunes to load up and all that.... and see if that works

if the above does not work, try this
    1) same as 1 above
    2) press the center button and the play/pause buttons at the same time.
    3) & 4) as above

Not the WMA files, all others

The Mac WILL format the Ipod, erasing all the songs on it, you will have to put the songs on the mac unless you use EPHpod or something similar.

    thats not problem

i can use the usb to transfer the music via the ipod over#

if i convert all wma to mp3 = there will be no difference in the ipod being mac formatted than pc formatted?

Do you not have the music stored on your pc/ Copy it from there. It sounds like the iPod is corrupt.

It sounds like the hard drive is corrupt on the iPod. reformatting might fix it.

Other than that you will need someone a little more experienced than I in this particular device :)
