I was in Cineworld yesterday and discovered that they've changed the layout of the shop. The self-service is all gone and is now all staff served.

However, it must be the slowest service ever. i was in a que for almost 20 minutes yesterday and this was at around 10 when it's not normally that busy.

Has anyone else been in the new shop and what do people think of it

What? You can't get your own jellies anymore? You have to point them out? I can imagine that would be slow.

No, the pick-and-mix and ice-cream and stuff is still the same. I think what the OP means is that there's no longer bags of popcorn and soda-fountains where you can pick stuff up yourself and bring it to the cash desk. It's now like every other cinema where you queue and then ask for popcorn and a drink.

Got a half day off work on Thursday so headed down to catch a film. Barely anyone there. I picked up some water and headed to the tills. I'm pretty much the only one there. There are two people at the very long tills. They weren't at one till in particular and spent ages ignoring me as i wondered which one was actually open. I think they need to retrain their staff in service and in the case of the OP, speed!

    Yeah. Well no surprise there.

The amount of people who would walk away without paying was just stupid.

It's not as bad as someplaces I've been. I was at a takeaway down from where I work a few weeks back and was standing there for at least 5 mins before anyone paid me any attention. I was seriously beginning to wonder if I'd been knocked down crossing the road and was no exisiting in some sort of limbo. I actually went as far as to repeatedly poke myself and try to pass my hand through a wall.

I was in there another day a week after and after a minute or so of being ignored just left.

Well if you havent already noticed all the signs they have there i don't know...

Was there myself last night to see National Treasure and yes the new layout is annoying at times, it's only a temporary issue.

Service is always slow in cinemas.

Cineworld has a great Ben & Jerry's stand and a bar so it's okay by me!

The area is getting expanded in time, it's just very small for the time being.

Ahh the memories of working in the popcorn island, memories of grease, sweat and orange coloured "butter" salt that is. //shudders

lol? theres huge un-missable signs apologising and statings its temporary.

Cineworlds service has always been great imo, hope they intend to keep the self service after the rennovations, its great being able to pick up your own popcorn and fill your own drink (ive noticed sometimes in omni they dont fill the cup entirely :( )

It's only temporary, there are a lot of layout changes and renovation going on at the moment.
Lots of hammering and tradesmen working which distracted me in the last two films I saw.

    I've never bought anything there.
    Word to the wise:
It's €2.20 for a bottle of water in Cineworld but only €1 if you walk 50 metres to the car park pay station. It's in the same building ;)

Yeah bringing your own munchies is better, way cheaper and a better selection.

I remember a mate of mine snuck in a 12" Buffulo Apache a few years back!

Should this not be in the Dublin/Film forum?

Yea, the reason stuff is so expensive is that Cineworld make *nothing* on your ticket sales. The only money they make is from the foood/drink they sell.

I much perfer their system of being able to fill your own drink etc. over all other places. Much nicer. You can mix and match drink too :D

As is the case with most cinemas, I'd imagine.

Yea. It has been discussed on the film board before.

Pretty much the first couple of weeks they make 0% from ticket sales. And then they might make a small % after that. Most of ticket sales goes right back to the film companies.

Its only really the food and drink that cinemas make any money on.

did you say "excuse me" or did you just stand there? if you spoke directly to one of them and they ignored you, it should be legal for you to hop over the counter and shove their face in the oil

Apolagies. I don't normally post here, but this topic really struck a nerve.

I was actually there myself yesterday. I think the new food area is fantastic! I was queueing for less than five mins for the ten o' clock showing of Juno, which on a friday night is a peak time for any cinema. When I got to the counter, I got everything I asked for within seconds and was even served with a smile, which is something rare in this city. All I can say is fair f**ks to the staff there, considering the percentage of their customers who are either junkies, drunk, or just complete assholes.

I said "excuse me" and waved a bit but got no response bar a cursory glance. Any other day I would have gone elsewhere but I was wet through from the rain, tired and fed up. All I wanted was a veggie burger and chips that I could eat at work. I didn't complain that time as I thought everyone deserves a second chance after it happed again I asked to speak to the manager and told him I wouldn't be getting food there again due to the poor service and staffs lack of respect.

They are finished the renovations. The signs have been taken down and the shop is now fully open.

I went there again today and the guy making the popcorn was wearing one of the masks that welders wear, very funny looking.

Thats understandable. Those popcorn kernels have a tendency to shoot out of the kettle. When they're covered in boiling oil, its unbelievably painful when it hits skin.
