Crossbows

    Its know as a firearm so therefore requires a licence.. do you need to be in a club or have lands where it is suitable to shoot.. how much for fac and is it same as rifle..is it a must to be in a club..

    You need to prove that you have a safe and legitimate place to shoot a crossbow. They are a bit of a grey area and getting a licence granted is generally up to the local garda superintendent so joining a club would be preferable.

    There's one club that does crossbow which is sports link. The licence governing a crossbow is pretty much the same as a rifle one and you have to meet the same criteria, gun case and such. I think the crossbow lads are trying to set up some beginner courses. They've run one in DCU which was interesting.

    Can't remember how much it cost for the fac but to shoot in a club I think you can only use competition crossbows and not pistol ones. Competition ones can be expensive
