Hello, 3 lads heading to munich for a week. we have are days sightseeing etc sorted out. But was wondering if anyone could reccommend a location in the city to stay and any hotels/restaurants/pubs(no irish bars please!). As with most travellers we would like to blend in with the locals and not look like the typical spanner on hols.
    Any help is much appreciated.

I can't recommened any specific hotels but anywhere around Marienplatz/Viktualienmarkt or Schwabing are good and central, walking distance everywhere.

For bars, I like the Shrannenhalle on Blumenstrasse, it's pretty relaxed sort of indoor street that's around 2 years old. There's lots of variety of food in Munich - and the best restaurants IMHO are the ones with a speciality like SPanish, etc., . Local food as in what you get in Augustiner or Hofbrauhaus is worth going for a Schweinhaxe but ..... Germany is not known for it's great local cuisine. Worth trying weisswurst as well, but usually it's for breakfast (before lunch).

Clubbing wise, Munich is like a little London - you have places like M-Park which need a small taxi (say €10) witha bunch of discos there. Although it's a bit "shicky-mickey", 8 Seasons on Maximillianstrasse has great great music (electronic), but is more in line with DUblin for prices.

I'm sure there are some others here who can advise more.

I stayed at the Le Meridien Hotel, Munich, it's a fantastic base for a Munich city break. First, it has a great location, opposite the Munich train station, and not far from all the attractions. The rooms are modern and spacious, there's a first class restaurant and friendly staff. Altogether a perfect place to stay, highly recommended.

Presuming you are three youngish typical lads, there's a great street of hostels near the train station th - at I'd defo recommend. It's not the main hub of the city, but it's where all young people would stay, great place to hang out & the hostels themselves have great bars that usually serve as a meeting point before people join up & head out together - Wombats is one, can also try EuroYouth i think it's called.

As for nightlife, there' s a complex called something like 4004 or whaever is any guidebook, just spend a few minutes in Easons the next day with a paper & pen handy to take notes! Re pubs, you must try the famous Hofbrauhaus for the beer - good stuff! Munich is really great city, travelled on my own during last summer for six weeks and was one of the highlights, you'll have a blast!
