Eircom wireless keeps disconnecting

Hi, I'm having an intermittent problem with my eircom wireless network. My laptop will drop the signal, either by showing a local connection only or no network. Its a new Vostro and works fine on my Ntl network in the college house.

My home router is a Netopia 2247 and the problem seems to arise when my sisters laptop is connected/trying to connect at the same time. I can connect fine for a few minutes after restarting the router but I invariably lose the connection.

I had a read through the FAQ but couldnt find what I was looking for.

    Cheers.

    Try changing the channel

To any particular channel or does it matter?

I was on the phone to Eircom "technical support", wanted me to reinstall vista

Report someone like that. Ring back and ask for his/her supervisor.
Giving out awful advice like that warrants a sacking. At least you recognised that a reinstall is not necessarily going to solve anything but many people wouldnt and will invariably follow this advice to no avail.

have you got an XBOX 360 running anywhere in the house ? I found that sometimes the wireless controllers interfere with other wireless signals. Pretty weird!

I doubt Eircom would be bothered by a complaint tbh... Worth a try though, lol at reinstall advice though, thought I'd heard it all up to that

I rang back and asked for a supervisor before I had spoke to the reinstall Vista guy, the lad before that simply hung up on me when restarting the router didnt work. Absolutely disgraceful service. Ntl is a shining light compared to these two particular jokers I spoke to.

Nope. Getting very very sick of this though, changed the channel from 9 to 7 last night, worked for an hour and then disconnected.

Any more ideas? I restarted the Wlan config and the DHCP client before it worked for an hour last night, tried again this morning to no avail.

Edit: Just rang there and asked to speak directly to a supervisor, he admitted that the front line have no knowledge of Vista and is getting a "vista-guy" to ring me in the next few minutes.

Sorted :) Vista-guy was fantastic, apologised profusely about the previous advice and said the last time someone advised reinstalling an OS the guy got the sack and Eircom ended up buying a new machine for the customer.

Turns out my network card, an Intel 3945 is something of a "network killer" and needed a new driver. Also the channel that this best recognises is no. 1.

All in all an absolutley disgraceful cust. service experience swung round to a great one at the end.
