    Hi,
Just got made permanent in my job and as a result I've now been offered tax saver commuter tickets.

Presently I buy the monthly bus ticket for €83 and it's says in the booklet that it cost €83 euro for a monthly bus ticket.

    Where's the saving?

The difference is that you can pay out of your pre-tax income, assuming you are earning enough to pay tax. The system is valid on various service providers and the minimum ticket duration is one month.

great scheme. i save about €1.20 a day on dublin bus with one of these tickets. i have a yearly one - it is deducted out of my wages each month. would recommend it

I would recommend them too - though there seems to be a problem with this year's ones. Mine was giving a 'card corrupt' at about three out of every four readers. I brought it in to be replaced and the woman at the desk said there was 'an issue' with many of them.

It's a great scheme though - a pity more people don't avail of it.
