I had a good old laugh on the DART this am reading an article about some clever politician hinting at Ireland possibly switching to driving on the right within 5 to 10 years! I love it since both my classics are LHD, but... seriously....

Some countries have done it mind you... Sweden I believe...

May be they could try with trucks first for a week, see what happens...

There is a large thread in the 'Motors' section about this. It'll never happen, as there is absolutely no need for it, as we are an island nation. Sweden was the exception, as it's surrounded by LHD nations, and prior to changing to the right hand side of the road, they were all driving LHD cars anyway.

He was on the radio about this this morning and I've never heard so much sh1te in all my life.
He was even proposing that the immigrant community, who are used to driving on the right, should be restricted to 50klm/hr:eek:
How would that be possible in a 100 zone, also the foreign nationals don't all drive foreign registered cars, so how could the guards tell who was who.
All these points, and more, were put to him on air and he just bull****ted his way through. I actually thought it was a wind up at first. It was obvious his "ideas" weren't thought out. I'm not political at all and couldn't even tell you which party Donie Cassidy belongs to but he is clearly one sandwich short of a picnic

How do you tell a yank or a german tourist that even though the signs say 100 or 120 the speed limit is 80?

Oh and, btw driving on the right IS being implemented but its being phased in....

You just have to laugh at the wasters up in the dail, he must have thought that up while drinking our tax money in the dail bar.how can u tell a foreigner anyway, ? some of the people that ive driven behind aint got a clue what side of the road they are on anyway.......imagine the hassle on the m50 or the red cow roundabout on a monday morning. cars would be piled up all over the place. If the tossers in the dail want to WASTE our taxes they should look after our roads, i reckon the roads in beirut or bagdad are beter than ours.:mad::mad::mad:

this is just madness, just because we have a couple of hundred thousand drivers from Latvia and Poland, crashing their cars, some lunatic wants to make us all drive on the other side of the road, what about the millions of Irish drivers, does that not count, it would be mayhem switching over, let the foreign drivers get used to driving on the left.
