I did a Fraser Island tour last November and it was brilliant. I recommend it highly. I can honestly say it was the most interesting part of my trip to Oz. I went with the Fraser Island Company which was the one recommended by my hotel - I stayed in Hervey Bay. I did the one day tour, which had two options – I did the “Exclusive Tour” which meant we were in a smaller group (10) and were therefore able to see parts the big tour (up to 40) couldn’t. Its not cheap… I paid AUD$ 170, and for that they pick up at hotels (8am), go to Ferry, guided tour of island, BBQ and (lots of ) beer/wine and return to your hotel. Our guide was great – funny and very knowledgeable. Bring your swim gear and swim in Eli Creek and Lake Allom… wow!!

If I were to go again, I would probably take the two day package and stay on the island.

Other things to do in the area: Hire a car (its dirt cheap) and drive around the area: Tin can bay, Rainbow beach, visit town such as Manley, etc.. Also a visit to Steve Irwins’s Australia Zoo is worth while and you can take in the Glasshouse Mountains which are amazing.
