I'll be in Oz March 2009 but I'm leaving on my travels in 5 weeks. So to get the max amount of travel i'm going to leave my Visa till the last day possible as it will only be valid for the 12 months after i get it ( the longer i leave it the longer i have in NZ basically)

I've read on the Visa site that it only takes 2 days when you apply online and some posters here have backed that up but i just want to be sure. Do you need to do an interview of some sort once you get it?

What is a sensible day to apply.. I'm leaving on March 12th.. could i apply say in the first week of March. Or would anyone advise against this? Better to be safe than sorrry? Sooner?

You dont have to be in ireland when you apply for it. You could do it when you're in NZ
Theres no interview however you may require a chest xray if you've been to certain countries(in s.america, africa, asia) in the past 5 years.

don't know if i've taken this up the wrong way but do you think that the oz visa is valid from when you first get it?? if so then don't worry, its valid for a year from the first day you land in the country. the sooner you apply the better coz at least you know you have it then. you don't need any interview, just apply online and you should be sorted pretty soon

Whaaa?? Nah just type in Australian working visa, go with visa first and youll have a visa sent by email the next day. Show this at airport when you get there and thats it.

No one should ever have a reason to go with visa first, just do it on the website directly and save you $$$ it is very very easy to do

Visa first is such a rip off!!

Offered the Mongolia visa for €100 or something whereas we got it for maybe €40-50 including postage to London and all that...

Hey, ya i know it's valid from when you enter Oz within 12 months.. thing is if i get it now it means i'll have to cut my 12 months travel short by a month to make it to Oz within the year..

Where is the best place to order online? Do they not have to put a sticker/stamp on your passport.. I don't think i'll be traveling with a credit card, could i still order in NZ without one?

Its cheaper to do it online.

Its cheaper to apply here than going through visa companies: http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/working-holiday/417/index.htm
You do require a credit card to pay for it tho. I always bring my credit card when travelling. Just load it up before I go. I thought most people do this?

You will be sent an email when your application is granted which you produce when you enter australia. You can get a sticker in the airport when you arrive if you want, but its not necessary.

Your Visa gets sent to your email address so doesnt matter where you are.

Stay clear of Visa first and use the link above for the Australian Gov website works out at €113
