How long does it take to arrange Travel insurance? Also, if you want to book a Hostel how long in advance do you have to book for a good place in Australia?

I usually book my travel insurance online, you enter in the date you want it to start and it's valid straightaway.

I usually just turned up at places when in Oz, most of the places in the guidebooks are booked out but there's always more. It depends on where it is and the time of the year (you'll find it hard to get a good backpackers in Melbourne during grand prix week (15 of us stayed in a one bedroom flat!) If you're on a flexible itinary it's hard to book ahead as you're travelling on a day to day basis.
