    Hi lads,
I was looking at buying a guitar from thomann.de but after having a look around, I've decided that I will buy from the UK as the euro is so good against the pound right now, and it makes it actually cheaper.

This guitar is is 777euros on thomann
    http://www.thomann.de/ie/prs_se_custom_csb_trem.htm

But its £409 on guitarbitz.com (which works out at 549 euros at current rate)
    http://www.guitarbitz.com/734.htm

Correct me if I'm wrong but isnt 550 euros (excluding delivery) for that guitar pretty good?

I do understand that if it was taken by customs it would be 665 euros with the 21% tax, and 3% electric guitar tax making it 682, but still - thats a pretty big saving.

Has anyone any other ideas of a guitar this versatile and well built for this price? I'm lookin for one for home recording and will be buying it this weekend

Customs can do nothing as you are still buying in the UK. :D

Try one out somewhere first as I haven't heard great things about those guitars.

When you say you havent heard great things about it, what do you mean?

I've looked at loads of reviews on Harmony Central, and they all seem really good. I also looked at a load of people playing it on youtube, and they've all said its deadly for the price.

I had a PRS Santana SE and it was a wonderful guitar. Sold it cuz it wasn't really my style but I'd still recommend that series of axes.

lol no...but all the reviews of them i have seen are great. see its kinda hard when u live in a city as **** as waterford to actually get to a music store to play any of the guitars i want to buy, so i can only go by youtube and harmony central reviews...and boards of course, which is why im here asking is there any better guitars for the price for home recording in the style of metal, rock, and contemporary music - ie. a versatile guitar

If you tend to lean your right arm on the body of the guitar while playing you may put this guitar out of tune ....more so with these guitars. I owned a custom 22 and lovely guitar as it was i just couldn't change my style (which most likely is incorrect in the first place) to conteract this. You really should try and get your hands on a PRS just to see if it suits ya.

I have a PRS SE Singlecut and I love it! Bought it in the States and brought it back so I got a huge saving! I would say try it out first..that goes for any guitar your thinking of buying. It is quite versatile, very easy to play but then again I was used to playing horrible electrics. If you have a good tube amp, and some nice pedals you can get some lovely sounds out of it, and looks gorgous too!

As for 550euro for that guitar. Yeah, it's decent enough price. I got mine for around 450euro..could've been less/more.

I stand corrected it would seem. I do remember people slating the lower end PRS's before maybe I shouldn't have said that. Really the main point was to try before you buy if you can! :)

The thing was I went into the shop looking for a Strat/Tele (would still love one) but I couldn't find an American I could afford and the Mexicans didn't do it for me, so went in the opposite direction and got the PRS. I had played the upmarket PRS's (knowing I couldn't afford them but still!) and my God they're gorgous. They just make fantastic guitars but even the upper end seem to me to have a 'general' sound off them. As in there's no characteristic to it, not like a Strat/Tele/LP that you'd recognise the sound straight away. That's not to say it doesn't have tone...and they're great for rock/blues. The SE series is obviously a huge step down from the upmarket models but it's still miles ahead in quality for guitars more expensive than 550euro. In my opinion anyway.

I've played a few of those SE models. Great guitars for the money. Very solid and they sound pretty good.

Se series are good for the cash and if you want somthing for rock metal and contemporary music i dont think theres any other option i would recommend over one. There not gonna be on the same level as the "real" prs guitars but still solid none the less.

yea that was what I was thinking. I don't think theres a guitar as versatile as one, so im going ahead and buying it today from guitarbitz.com

    yay! new guitar!
