Hi there. I'm trying to bring a friend of mine over from the Dark Side, but his big interest is music. I have an old G3 300 which I believe would just about run garageband 1.0 which would just give him a look around it to see what he thinks before he makes a decision.

My problem is, I threw out a load of my old software a few weeks before he asked me and I don't have the first release of GB any more. Would any kind soul have a copy lying around to sell or donate?

    Thanks
    WR

I doubt you'll impress him with a 300MHz G3 to be honest - more likely just put him off. I think iLife 04 is what you're looking for. That's where Garageband first appeared I think.

You might just get Tiger to run if you can install it - it comes on DVD. But you'll need to pack it with RAM to make it any way useful - 512MB is the max I think on an iMac G3.

I've explained how old the set up is. He doesn't expect to put tracks together, he just wants to get an idea of the look and feel. I've been banging on how intuitive the mac is with its apps, and he's seen me working on my Al 12" PB which is over 4 years old, but still quite quick on 512Mb ram. The G3 runs 10.3.9 no problem at all. Not quick, but not exactly walking though treacle either.

Thanks for having a look. What really galls me is that i had a big clearout of old s/w disks about 3 weeks before hand....and guess what went out?
