Paypal dispute woes

So I buys a 8GB memory card off ebay on 13th Oct 07 that turns out to be fake.
As it doesn't work I raise a dispute on paypal on 10th November.
Paypal tell me to return the item to the seller via registered post (at my own cost), supply the tracking number and once the item has been verifiably returned to the seller paypal will provide me with a refund.
    This I do.
Today (8th Feburary 2008), paypal ask me to get proof that the item was fake, and supply within 10 days or my case will be cancelled.

Having told me to return the item they now want me to take the item to a local supplier to get proof it is fake ??
Where's the sense in that ?

And I have 10 days to do this, while it took them 3 months to respond to my claim.

I fear questioning their rational will only result in my case been canceled for complaining,
so I'll have to contact my friend in Sony for a letter.

Thou shalt not question paypal/ebay's authority or thy will be banished.
The benefits of a unregulated monopoly.

I've had nothing but bad experiences with them in the past so shouldn't be surprised at this.
This company really needs to be regulated like a bank, it seems they just make up their own rules.

Tell them you cannot prove it was fake since you already returned it to the seller, at Paypal's request.

Then contact your credit card provider about a chargeback if Paypal don't refund your money.

The seller must be contesting the dispute, otherwise the refund would have been processed. Report the seller to Sony and eBay too for selling fake cards.

Seller is no longer registered with Ebay..
I think I'll get a 'report' from somewhere and provide to paypal..
I feel if I can't do it for whatever reason (even though it's their fault) they will
    cancel the claim..
If it don't work, I'll be proceeding with a chargeback.

Well if the seller is now no longer registered one would imagine that you might as well proceed with the ref claim with PayPal as it sounds unlikely you'll actually recieve t said item.

First thing you need to do is go to this site www.paypalwarning.com

Then you need to realise no matter how may emails you send to paypal all you will get back is a the same machine produced email telling you exactly the same thing every time.

Also the seller is not able to close his/her paypal account while there is issues to be resolved with his/her account.

I was selling on ebay and was up €20,000 until paypal stopped me (Without warning). They had limited my account and asked me for tracking numbers for the good that people had purchased. This was impossible to give them because all my good were shipping by dropshippers and I didnt get a chance to withdraw the money from paypal to purchase the goods. That was just before xmas, my account is still limited, some buyers have not been refunded yet and paypal refuse to talk to me (They sent me an email telling me they wont talk to me anymore) because it is too much hassle to them to pick up the phone. If you look for a phone number for PayPal you will find it difficult to locate one. Don't worry, go to paypalsucks.com and you will find all their numbers, fax numbers and email addresses.

You are better off with the likes of Alertpay. or 2checkout.com

Alertpay is just like paypal but without the side effects! LoL

unbelievable... out of the blue paypal just sent me an email now:
Thank you for providing tracking information confirming that you returned
the item associated with this case. You will receive a separate email with
information on how this case will be resolved.

err.. I provided this 3 months ago..
last week they asked me to provide proof the item was fake..

    The professionalism continues.

    Update:
    New email from them
We have concluded our investigation into your case and have decided in your
    favour.
We were able to recover XXXXX, and this amount has been credited to
you. Please allow five business days for this adjustment to be posted.

ehh.. So what about the proof of non-authenticity that was requested last week ?
    A mistake ?
Seems to be a flakey system overall..
The funny thing is, when I lodged the dispute initially,
I got a message stating I wasn't covered (no reason given)
    Now they refund me..
    Bunch of muppets..

Is it widely accepted on ebay?

Is it widely accepted on ebay?

    Actually no.....

eBay won't allow them permission to be a payment gateway because they know that if they let the Decent payment processors access to eBay then PayPal would go under in less than a year and have to actually be 'nice' to it's customers to keep their business.

I for one hate paypal after what they did to me and then after reading www.paypalwarning.com www.paypalsucks.com and a few others like them I realized how much paypal are actually scammers and thieves.

The funny thing about them is, your account could have absolutely no problems and you are selling on ebay, making a good living from it until BANG! Paypal limit your account for no reason! Tell you it's a security measure. Did you know they limit 5% of their accounts, thats over 2,000,000 accounts a week. And since eBay are now changing the rules CNN have reported that some of eBays top power seller have stopped using both eBay and PayPal and are selling from their own websites now. These are people who have been with eBay since the days payment were posted by cash in envelopes.

Some regulations need to be introduced for online auction/payment systems.
At the moment they can do & charge what they want, and get away with it.
