I notice in macro mode on the 400D , you can't change shutter speed or F value ?
I can do this on my older powershot ?

Or is it best just to use the manual mode on a wide f setting for macro shots ?

You should probably just use the aperture priority mode (Av mode on Canons I think) or manual mode for macros - make sure you have a macro lens though!

The preset scenes are not that creatively liberating, rather they are for people who want to just get the photo taken without hassle (or more hassle depending on how creative you want to be).
