    Hi All,

Looking for a very specific size of o-ring, anyone know where to get one in dublin?? I'm going to try the local motor factors, failing that, is there anyone else i should try?

Don't know if automotive O-rings differ from ones used in plumbing, but any builders providers will have O-rings for plumbing....

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies... i kinda need a fairly accurate metric o-ring, i guess most of the pluming places would just be imperial stuff...

I dropped abbey seal an email with the exact sizes, so i'd say they would have something....

    Thanks again...

DD, PM me the size and I'll see what I have here. I have a selection of about 50-60 different sizes varying from the tiny to the large and I'll post them out to you if I have them...free of charge to a fellow boards member of course

Give me the inner diameter and cross sectional area, thats all I need

    Hi Lex,

I need a 37mm or 38mm (inner diameter) x 4mm (cross section).... BMW make you buy the complete hose when all that fails is the o-rings, of course they won't sell you the o-ring, its mad in the environmentally aware world we live in. [Then again if we were that environmentally aware we wouldn't be driving BMWs' would we :o ]

Thanks for the generous offer, see what you have there, but i think i'm sorted as I was onto abbey seals and they have exactly what i need, i was going to drop into them next week...

I had a look at quite a few kits of them getting the cross section as large as 4mm is the problem with most.

    Thanks again all.

DD, I won't be back in on site where I can get them until next Wednesday.

I would say I would have one alright in that size....Like I said, there is a huge cabinet in work with every size I can think of. if you manage to pick one up before then, let me know. Will Abbey Seals sell you just 1? If they want to sell you a kit, then walk away. I'd be quite confident I can get you a few. Even if the o-ring is only 35mm ID, you can stretch it...done it a 100 times myself to get a good vacuum seal and with a bit of vacuum grease, it seals even better.

Yea they were quite sound on the phone, i'll get about 10 of them and they said grand €0.36 each, which is good.

The outer diameter of the water connection fitting is 39mm, hence I'm going for an o-ring with an inner diameter of 37 or 38mm. Based on measuring the cross section of the old o-ring it seems to compress it by about 0.5mm when in place.

Some people say to put grease on these, would you agree? i'd be afraid the grease would effect the rubber over time. I normally just wet them when I'm sliding them in, to make sure they don't snag and seat properly.

I'll let you know how i get on, and if i need one, thanks again for the offer...
