Amy Winehouse has been denied a visa to the US, which she was applying for to get to the Grammys.

Got me thinking - what the hell would it take for Ireland to stop a complete idiot from getting in here?
They let in people with 24 criminal convictions in their home country, so where do you draw the line?

Is this another "what would your ideal immigration policy be?" sort of thread?

We're all aware Irelands immigration policy is a fcking joke.

No, it's more of a "Winehouse is a useless junkie"/"Ireland's crap"/"I dislike many immigrants" thread rolled into one.

Tisk tisk, can't say a bad word about immigrants on AH, Ruu and WWM won't stand for it, sure they're both immigrants themselves don't ya know?

Regarding immigrants coming here with criminal convictions, sure we're Ireland, Europes f*cking doormat where we let basically anybody who wants to come here in, regardless of their excuse (as has said before, closest safe country my arse). What can be done about it now?Nothing, it's far too late and I'm sure we'll suffer the consequences of yet another governmental f*ck up in the coming years. Let's just all blame the Fianna Fail voters, easiest that way.

Regarding Winehouse, I'd be amazed if she's still alive 12 months from now. She's an absolute mess and her family are greedy, retarded pieces of sh1t.

Usually I'd agree but then I read in the paper that 43 Brazilians were refused entry into Ireland last week. They claimed that they were here for the match (fair enough) but were refused on suspision that they would try stay here permanantly. Dunno what that means, but perhaps the immigration system will get better..

Because you've known her family personally for so long? She's extremely talented, prodcues great music (in the studio. Live you can't understand a word she says cos shes off her head) but she's got an addiction to drugs and alcohol. If any old randomer had an addiction to drugs/alcohol people wouldn't give two sh1ts but because she's famous she's an absolute mess? Yeah, she's mess but why doesn't anyone feel sympathy towards these people? I don't understand why people are filled with so much hate (not you personally, just that I'm seeing a lot of hate for Amy Winehouse these days..juse p1sses me off. And I'm not her biggest fan either by the way).

I personally welcome the immigrants to our country for a couple of reasons.
1 they help dilute the gene pool.
2 they do the jobs no one else want's to do
3 they bring a little bit of their own culture with them
4 some of their women are yummy (compared to typical whinging Irish Ban Shees)
5 in the future we may end up living in a more enlightened colourful Ireland
6 the Irish have travelled all over the world and many have been very succesful. Without other countries having an open door policy these people would have been sent home.
What we need is open minds, not closed borders.Obviously there needs to be proper vetting of applicants in order to weed out any wasters. But to those people who manage to succed I wish them all the best. To want to live here they must be desperate.:D

They did end up granting her a visa, but she's still going to do it from London, apparently. Or maybe they didn't and her PR people are trying to paint a better picture of her. I'm betting it's the former, though.

A friend of mine was going to Australia a few years back... they asked him if he had any criminal convictions, and he replied with 'I didn't think you needed one anymore' :p

I don't mind either, what I do mind is letting scumbags from other nations in.

I dunno how anyone could disagree with that? We don't need any more scumbags, yet I keep hearing **** about Romanian and Polish people robbing, getting into fights and grabbing people at ATM's trying to get their cash.

I have no problems with Romanians or polish or any other people, I do have a problem with scumbags and every country has them. Its just our country lets the scum from others run a muck. They need to start filtering the scum FFS!
