I bought my first Mac today and I'm very impressed

    I got a Mac Mini 1.83ghz Core2 Duo

The Mac is almost silent and the OS is very easy to use

Got mine just before Christmas, and I love it. You are right, never will go back to the Dark Side. Great support as well, and easy to follow trouble shooting on their web site. I went wireless with mouse/keyboard and was able to get rid of:D 2 multiblocks , which pleased herself no end ("Do something about them wires, they're everywhere!)

Has anyone bought the new Apple wireless keyboard. It looks cool, but it's expensive and I was wondering if it was worth it

"That's the older model though"?? What you mean by that? Is there a new model out cause the thread is from the last 2 months.

Anyways I was told that you can buy the components for cheap then install them urself?...then u would have an 'older' model with the new specs and for far less then almost €600

    I am willing to spend €400 on a 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo,1GB memory,120GB hard drive optional.
In my dreams tho!! The price i have been quoted is €644 ex vat.

I am tempted top go for the Intel Core 2 Duo 1.6GHz €495 ex vat. Does any one know is there much difference between the two different specs?

The models that PC World were selling were mostly clearance Core Duo, not Core 2 Duo, Minis and some of them had been display models. I bought one for €249 with 512MB RAM and the 1.6GHz processor and superdrive. The €300 model had a 1.83GHz Core Duo processor and 512MB RAM iirc. The model the OP bought the newer C2D model.

Mac's seem to have gotten progressively more popular in the advent of the iPod here.

OP, what's your first impression of the OS - apart from ease of use? I assume yours is 10.5 (Leopard).

Depends on who you listen to. Some say it will be discontinued. I think it will be a while before it updates again, last one was only August?

If I had a penny for every time someone said the Mini was on its death bed... I'd have a few pennies. If I had a Mini for every time someone said it, I'd be very happy :D

I think it will take a while to get used to.

I've always used Windows and am currently also running Vista HP on a DELL 9150.

The one thing I've noticed about software etc is that there are severe compatibility issues with software ie software will work with Tiger but not with Leopard. I know that there are sometimes problems with compatability on Windows however, this is the 5th release of OSX in 5 years.

Safari also seems to crash a lot especially on the imdb.com site, which IE doesn't do. However, I like the way Safari on Mac renders the pages etc as it is far better than IE in this regard.

I'm going to buy Office 08 and might try to get a student licence for Photoshop etc.

Overall I actually believe that I have made the right decision in buying the Mini and depending on how it behaves in the long run, my next main PC may actually be an iMac
I've also noticed that Microsoft seem to have cut back on Mac development, with the exception of Office, as the latest version of Windows Media Player is version 9

PS: The wireless keyboard is a must as it is perfectly engineered and looks very cool!

Safari works ok, but download Camino (Mozilla-engined, Mac-optimised browser) to use when Safari drops the ball. I actually use Camino all the time, and only use Safari when Camino doesn't work well, which is much less often than Safari!

MS have stopped doing anything for Mac which they can't charge for - that's why IE for Mac is no longer supported. Because it's also ageing, Windows Media Player for Mac is no longer worth using - download Flip4Mac, which is a plug-in for Quicktime that allows it to play WMV files.

Actually, 10.2 is very different from 10.1, and 10.3 from 10.[12], etc. So it is not just *a* release of OS X with "service packs".

Have a go at Firefox and see which browser you like.

We use Skype a lot with fellow Mac users as well as Windoze "prisoners" :D, so do give that a go.

i had this problem too with imdb. However now i wait for a page to load on imdb before clicking "Back" or clicking on an imdb link
