    HI All,

Please any help with this? I have been working my ass off for the last 3 years since i finished College. I have 15,000euro saved im going around the world for a year- 2 Months Asia, 8 Months Australia and New Zealand and finally 2 in South America just booked it today. The plan is not to work as i will be doing it till im 65. How much will it cost with the above places, i know Oz wont be near as cheap as Asia & SA.

Im probably picking a good year to go away since my County have gone on strike.:(

    Any help really appreciated :)

By Asia if you mean Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, etc. You will manage on around €20-30 a day comfortably enough. Add a little more if you are doing any trips or constantly going out in the popular tourist areas.

Australia and New Zealand are pretty expensive. You would easily go through €60-80 a day. But you can budget under that.

South America is relatively cheap with the exceptions of Chile, Brazil, the Guyanas and parts of Argentina. But it is a lot cheaper than here. The rest ranges from dirt cheap to pretty cheap. You'll easily manage on €20-30 a day here too. But can be done a hell of a lot cheaper if you budget the **** outta it.

The price per day is a rough guide. It can always be higher and lower depending on what you are doing each day. Drinking and going out most days will obviously make you spend more.

And if i was you i wouldn't be too ambitious with South America since you're only spending 2 months there. It's a huge continent and not the easiest to travel in around the Andean region. Well i mean journey's take longer than they look and are supposed to. You can travel anywhere by bus. Since you'll more than likely fly into Santiago you try Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil. Or head up through Chile into Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador.

Just suggestions. I'm sure you'll find your own way though

I'm just back from a 2 month trip in South America and it was a great amount of time. Okay, another month would have been nice but we saw and did so much. The highlights for me were the 4 day Inca Trail, and the Salt Flats in Bolivia - an absolute must see.

Peru and Bolivia were very cheap, but avoid Chile if you can, pricewise it's a killer. Buenos Aires is not all that cheap either but an amazing city.

By the way, how come you're planning to spend 8 months in Oz and NZ? To be honest, I think you'd be much better off reassigning some of this time to see more of S.A or Asia, a lot more rewarding, and much much cheaper. 8 months in Australia if you're not working will cost you a FORTUNE!! 15,000 definitely won't cover it. Not a chance!

You'll see and do so much but i'd feel like i was constantly on the move and i hate moving on because i have to stick to a timeline. I prefer the open plan. I went to Ecuador with intentions of making it down through the continent in about 10 weeks. I spent a month in Ecuador and loved Peru so much that i ended up staying there for the remainder. There was no point in me continuing on any further with the pace i was going at. So going back to do it properly this year. Well to each his own i suppose. As long as you enjoyed it.

You should consider working in oz or new zealand if you're spending 8 months there. Temporary contract jobs for a few months are usually easy to find. You can easily see everything(and I mean everything) in oz and nz in 4-5months. I dont understand spending 8 months there if you're not planning to work.

It really depends on your lifestyle. If you´re going to drink a few times a week it will go way up. I could travel fora year on it, but I rarely drink and stick to cheap countries. I couldn´t make thta last for 8 months in Aus. Also, are you going to but rtw airfare out of that? That could have you down to 13000 before you go.

    Hiya,

No i have everything else paid for the 15000 will be just spending money.

The most i could spend is 18000 id say would that do?

Well 15000 divided by 240 days (roughly 8 months) is 62.50 euro (around 100 AU dollars) a day. That's what you will spend on average. Australia isn't overly cheap although it's not the most expensive place on earth. You could easily blow your 15 grand budget in Australia alone over a period of 8 months. Rent money or hostels when traveling, 20 a day on food, 20 on taxis/buses/etc, 20 upwards if you're paying into places to do tourist things, 20 upwards if your drinking every day. Thats close enough to the 100 dollars a day gone. But as mentioned by someone above, it depends what you are doing everyday. Search in google for cost of living and sample prices of things.

In my experience, it wont cover you. I left and went thru America and South America and arrived in Oz on much the same budget as you, had around 15k leaving home. Was down to about 7/8 in Oz, and started work there, getting a good wage. Travelled far and wide tho, and did the whole country and didnt stay in any one place too long. Worked for at least half the time there, in between taking long trips, and i earned well over $20k. Went home thru Asia and came back without a penny.

You'll be grand with that money as long as you do some sort of work there. But it depends how much you want to do travel wise. i wanted to do it all and see it all, so was prepared to spend all my money, as thats what it is there for and you may never get the chance again, so I took what I could get and saw as much as I could and wasnt stingy with my money.

If you are going to mates in Bondi and will stay there sleeping on a couch for 7 months, you'll be fine. If you want to get around and travel and see the country, then you'll need more.
