Chimney fire

Hope this is the right section.

Ok, the fire brigade is just after leaving. Very scary, the noise of the fire in the chimeny was something awful. Only been 12 mts since it was cleaned, and i'm not one to push the panic button, but i was afraid this one was out of control. As it's a timber frame house i was worried the whole lot was going to go.

My question is this. I heard the pots inside the chimney pop, a few times, sounded like a gun shot, how do i go about getting the chimney inspected to find out what, if any, damage was done...i.e who would be the best person to ask? I'm pretty sure it must be damaged as at one point there were flames dancing out the top .

I'ts out now, but i won't be putting a fire on in the near future, such a fright, fair play to the fire birgde, had it out in no time.

I would check with your home insurer first as they may require/recommend a survey completed and need to approve repair costs etc.

there are dedicated companys who do cctv inspections of flues. how old is the house? do you know if the flue is concrete or clay. if the flue is the clay type the popping you heard was the sections expanding and cracking. you might get away with relining the flue with a flexi liner if there is no major structural damage.

This is the second time in recent days that flue liners have been mentioned.

I think in the interest of all (the lonely) people :) who look on here, particularly self build and others, that the current regs could be usefully described.
I dont know what they are, all I have is the HB manual.

I know chimneys are going out of fashion from an energy conservation perspective but has anyone told Santa...

I guess 6 years later they might have resolved the problem.
