no Virus Protection needed with Netgear?

    While fixing my netgar wireless router the support guy said I don't need seperate security software as its built into the router is this true?

    A firewall is built into the router yeah, but you have to manually configuer it. And unless you know what your doing it will just cause you a headache. But your best off with a AV package like AVG or similar. And a decent software firewall. Stay away from the mcaffe stuff as its a pure system hog. Plenty of good free ones available. If you look at the top of this forum there is an essential software sticky. You will find all you need in it.

    Some Netgear routers have an optional ability to subscribe to Trend Micro virus protection, which is probably what he was referring to.
