    Hey, can anyone tell me a way of stopping .pdf files opeing in Internet Explorer. I've tried a few things, but none of them seem to work. The 'Edit > Preferences > Internet > Display PDF in browser' doesnt do anything. I also tried editing the following reg keys...
    Click Start, Run and type regedit.exe
    Navigate to the following location:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroPDF.PDF.1
    Backup the branch to a file
    In the right-pane, double-click the EditFlags value
    Set the Value Data for EditFlags to 00 00 00 00 (REG_BINARY)
    Repeat the same in this key:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.Document.7
    Exit Registry Editor.

    Anyone have any other suggestions?

    I hate that too... Nothing worse than clicking a link in google, too late you realise its a PDF and your browser stops responding for 5 mins while it downloads and opens a pdf file.

    You could try uninstalling Adobe reader, then reinstall.. there "might" be an option for integration you can unselect.

    Another thing you can try, assuming you have IE7 is in the options page, find manage addons and get rid of the adobe acrobat crap for PDF's etc (tools, internet options, programs)

    Go into Windows Explorer or My Computer:

    => Tools
    => Folder options
    => File Types Tab
    => Scroll down to 'PDF'
    => Change the "Opens With" Programme to you current version of Adobe Reader.

    Open Internet Explorer, Tools menu, Manage Add-ons
    In the Manage Add-ons dialog, select Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer
    Make sure Adobe Acrobat Control for ActiveX (pdf.ocx) is disabled. If it's enabled, disable the add-on and restart Internet Explorer.

    would that not be the file association within windows itself? Im not sure that is what he is looking for. Its when he is online he does not want a PDF to automatically open. He wants to download it automatically so he can double click it later.

    Um.....easy way:

    Close IE. Open Adobe Reader (Start > Run > "acrord32")

    Go to Edit > Prefences > Internet.

    Untick "Display PDF in browser".

    OK.

    Presto! :)

    Ok, there doesnt seem to be an add-on for this. The only adobe add ons that are there are 'AcroIEHlprObj Class' and 'Shockwave Flash Object'. Disabling the first one didnt seem to do anything. Is there any way of manually adding pdf.ocx? (i'm running Adobe 7.0 standard btw). I'll try a re-install and have a look if theres any other way. The only problem is that we use MSI's to install most programs :(

    And thanks for the suggestions :)

    Did you restart IE?
    Shockwave has nothing to do with this.

    In case the Adobe Acrobat Control for ActiveX is not listed (even after selecting the option Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer in Manage Add-ons dialog), register the pdf.ocx file using the Regsvr32 command.

    Example: regsvr32 "c:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\ActiveX\pdf.ocx"
