Folks, i had to roll back the brothers laptop last week. When i did it lost the internet. I loaded the eircom cd and followed all instructions. the laptop sees the router and says it is connected but will not load any pages, or go into 192.168.1.254 screen. When the router is connected to a desktop via yellow cable all is fine, can get into the router page and make sure wireless is on etc.

I uninstalled eircom and started over, making sure wep key was entered correctly. Still not loading pages, on the self help screen it says something about a bad gateway, followed all the online advice, still not working. Anyone have any ideas ? Its running vista btw. (if that matters, cos i hate it ! )

Can you get the laptop connected to the internet using the yellow cable?

    Set up the connection manually:

    Default gateway: 192.168.1.254
    Broadcast: 255.255.255.255
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0
IP address: 192.168.1.40 (or any thats not in use, jus picked 40 randomly)
    Primary dns: 192.168.1.254
    DHCP server: 192.168.1.254

should work.. or if you want to just post up the results of "ipconfig /all" on the command line (cmd), we can tell you exactly what the problem is.

Ill try the manual connection friday and post the ipconfig/all.

Just wondering now, i gave the router a static ip last year before he got the laptop, would that have anything to do with it ? Then again it was able to connect with the CD initially. Doing my tits in at the moment !

You gave the router a static IP? Do you mean you changed the routers default IP or you disabled DHCP?

Tried everything friday evening, no joy. I reinstalled vista (still hate it) and started from scratch with the eircon cd and everything worked fine. Wireless working grand. Brother is happy. I wasted about 10 hours. I will just wipe it next time.
