Not a biggie bu one that has got my curiosity going...

When I'm surfing the net I continually get banner adds for PKR and VC poker... how do the site I'm browsing know that I have an interest in poker?

Have they installed some sort of tracking cookie or something?

Is it any harm? should I get rid of it?

maybe I'm way off here and just paranoid

It doesn't know you have an intrest in poker :D

It's just like any other ad (only more annoying)

But i wouldn't go to there site as the odds are very much in there favour

Your ads are being targeted based on your surfing behaviour. It's not a big deal...until you start being invited to paedophile conventions. It's just cookies. Most of us probably see PKR ads all the time now. As to why you are getting penis enhancement emails, they also employ advanced satellite spying technology. Oh and *everyone* in Nigeria knows what a sucker you are, it's quite the joke. But seriously, it is cookies and it is targeted advertising.

You can have a look at things like trackmenot to combat this. Adblock Plus too, assuming you don't already have it.

I'm guessing you have the CiD advertising software on your PC which is bundled with programmes such as the unofficial MSN addon, Messenger Plus! It's a pain in the hole, but can be removed using this.

If it's not CiD that your seeing (CiD ad's typically pop-up in a new window), then may I suggest you upgrade to FireFox and download the AdBlock addon which blocks almost every ad known to man!

If neither of the above suggestions fix it, come back to me and I'll try go through it in more detail.

    Cheers,
    Adam

I just clicked 'this' to see what it was and my antivirus software kicked in immediately.

It's a false positive because the vendor of the removal utility (which I linked to) is the company who created the adware software. They are required to under US law to ensure that users can opt out at any time so the removal utility ensures that what they're doing is legal.

Mind you, I spent ages looking for it - they obviously don't want you to find it!

And you trust these people enough to run a different .exe they are giving out to people who are trying to remove their darling "product" ?

Do you ever invest in property as I have some you might be interested in too :)

Usually I wouldn't, but when I suffered from the problem myself I was too lazy to trawl through HiJack This records to find out which programme was the culprit.

A quick search on Google for CiD Remover will unearth various other solutions.
