    Hi,

Maybe someone can help answer this for me. Through work we've been offered a pretty good price on the following laptop

Now in the specs it says maximum supported memory 2GB, however this seems to me to be a Santa Rosa chip (Core 2 Duo T7500) so shouldn't it not support 4GB or am I missing something?

Any help on this would be appreciated as I've only a few days before the offer ends.

The ram limitation is on the motherboard, it has nothing to do with the cpu. I think you are confusing the ram with the cache. The cache (4MB) is on the cpu and has nothing to do with the ram. I've read that some laptops that say they can only take 2GBs of ram can actually take 4GBs. It seems to be hit and miss though.

ok thanks for that. I might just go ahead and order it and see. I´ve tried checking for the chipset/motherboard on the web but haven´t found anything

More specifically the northbrigde chipset would decide the total amount of ram usable by a system, a 945PM northbridge from dell as used in the xps line takes 4gig of ram.

so as AC said its not decided by a cpu alone.
