Thematic vs. Chronological CVs

My career history (last six years) has been a little 'bitty' - I've worked overseas in one (broad) field for 6-9 months at a time, and then returned to ireland to work in a different field in between (to supplement my income, save for traveling, save for Uni, etc.) As such, my CV doesn't seem to 'flow' particularly well chronologically - i seem to have jumped from one field to another, and I have gaps in the timeline (from traveling & uni). However, I know I was trying to build experience in my primary field (overseas) while having a background in my secondary field which occasionally helped out. (If i'm being too vague, can tell you what the fields are, but am trying not to complicate too much...)

Anyway, my question is about laying out my employment experience in these two fields thematically, i.e.

    Field One
    - Job one, 2007 - Present
    - Job two, 2004
    - Job three, 2002

    Field Two
    -Job one, 2006
    -Job two, 2003

To me, this now looks a bit more cohesive and like i've been building a (admittedly dual-headed) career rather than just jumping about. But I realise chronological CVs are the norm, and I'm worried about scaring employers off.

    Any suggestions / advice?
