Not talking about any venue here but can someone advise me if cameras are generally allowed into large scale gigs? I usually leave mine at home because I wouldn't want it confiscated but I hate missing out on taking a photo from really memorable gigs! :D

Yeah but dont stand in front of me with your arm stretched up in the air watching the whole gig through your camera as happened to me last night at a gig. So fricking annoying i had such a good view before that dunce showed up.

I always bring my camera. Its quite thin so I can slip it in my pocket easily. I have never seen anyones camera taken form them, the odd time someone will be told to turn it off but its very rare. Sure everyone around normally has their cameras/phones out so its grand.

as mike said above, just remember to watch some of the gig and not video/take blurry photos the full way through like seems to be the norm these days. ( are those videos really worth taking?)
unless of course your a photography enthusiast or student, but from most of what is in my way at gigs they dont fit that description.

yeah but tool are one of those bands that are very protective of they're identity, you'll notice they dont really appear in any of they're videos etc?
a few years back it seemed to be alot tighter at gigs and stuff, but since the digital camera age it seems to have relaxed alot (i know the gig you mentioned was only recently)
i say bring your camera, take a couple of snaps of yourself and your pals and couple of the band, then relax and enjoy the show

Tool being protective of their identity doesnt make sense. They are in the videos for Hush and Prison Sex (briefly) and they often have publicity photos taken of them. As to why they are dicks about photos being taken live I cant say but its not to hide who they are.

These days it must be a lot more difficult for them to stop people with cameras since most mobile phones have them now as well. Will they start taking mobiles phones also? ...i doubt it :p

i think thats their first two videos? So maybe they decided to be anal about it after that? Also publicity shots, they can have some form of control as to how they look, who uses them etc, whereas pictures anybody takes arent the same.

I'm not defending them im just saying they aren't your regular sort of band when it comes to photography, but of course it could also just be over zealous security with nothing better to do.

Yeah, it's nice to be able to bring your camera to gigs and take a few photos, especially outdoor summer gigs and festivals.

However, I think if you look at the terms and conditions on the reverse side of your ticket, you'll find that it normally says that photography is not allowed and that anyone bringing a camera will risk it being confiscated (or something along those lines).

A few years ago I decided not to bring my camera to a festival because I was afraid that the security personnel would take it on the way in. It specifically said on the ticket that photography was banned.

I found it very frustraing that after passing through the security checks, one of the first things I saw was a camera stand selling disposable cameras!!!!

i dont see the point in bringing a proper camera, i have a good camera phone, might take a few stills on that. if you want video of a gig, go to youtube, If sombody tuck the time to tape a few songs at a gig, it nearly always ends up on youtube, even if it is sh*t quality!
I think most gigs allow photography, but not video

OK so if I have to spend an hour arguing with security or trying to get my camera back I'm blaming all you guys!! :p:p:p

You might not believe this but on a recent tour a certain band made people hand in their phones before the show so they couldn't take videos/pictures.

i was at one before and they did a security check before in the queue, confiscating everyones cameras.
there was a place afterwards though where they could be collected

Whats the rule on camcorders these days? Im pretty sure theyre not allowed in. But theyre getting so small and compact they almost look like cameras. Was at a gig last night and the searching before hand wasnt exactly thorough. You could easily bring on in. (No that id want to!).

I usually bring a digital camera....If the security asks I just tell them its my phone...unless you get a really strict guy (very rare IME) theres no problem
