It's something I've been thinking about for a while.

Basically, I'm very bored with my job at the moment and am supposed to commence night college this month to complete the ACCA. I honestly have no interest in this though.

Problem is I already have the bills which have to be paid each month so I can't afford a major drop in money so does anyone know what cabin crew start out on?

    Excellent site!
I don't know the answer but there is a dedicated forum on cabin crew on this site.
    I'm sure you'll find something

Thanks Micmlo, there's no answer to my question on that site so I've posted a question and eagerlly waiting a response.

Was hoping there might be some cabin crew on-line here that might have some insight!

for the first year its roughly 29,000 after tax per annum plus 4,000 after tax shift pay given monthly plus 2,000-3,000 yearly in 'all for one' vouchers for commission on sales also given monthly. it varies on what flights you do but holidays days are very good and obviously travel for you and family.you also get pay and accomodation for 4 week training course so you wouldnt be out of pocket in that respect. hope that helps

Given the job cuts at Aer Lingus - are they actually recruiting Cabin Crew ?

Are women preferred to men in cabin crew or is it just that a lot more women apply for it then men? I'm a bloke and would imagine a job like that would be a good laugh, but it doesnt seem to be the most masculin of jobs...or am I wrong in saying that?

Hey, does anyone know if they would take on a 38 year old for cabin crew? Does age matter?

Look on their website. They are recruiting in the new year as far as I know. But a hostess I know told me recently she believe they may re-hire many of the people they let go(or made "redundant") in the last year or 2.

They seem to always want to hire crew for the Madrid - Dulles route!

EI recently recruited for Dublin cabin crew positions. There was a discussion on boards about it.

I call foul on this. 29K after tax? What's that, >E40K gross for a starting position!!!!!

Starting for new crew is more like E18-20,000 gross.
Approx E150-200 each per month in shift pay and commission. (route dependant)
Free uniform and case given to new crew.
No staff travel until after 6-9 months, not sure which.
100 flight hours in 28 days (as per EU maximums) (Actual on duty time is usually up to double this)
A roster bidding system that is tampered with.
2 days off per week, but not always together (Unlike FR who operate an effective 5-2-6-3 system)

And no chance of getting EI to pay your accommodation during training unless you are going to be based in Washington.

Aer Lingus have no active recruitment according to their website but they are accepting applicants for future cabin crew recrutiment.

We are currently looking to develop a panel of suitable candidates which may be progressed to the initial stage of the selection process should positions become available in our In-flight Services Department in Dublin.

Yes , unrealistically high , anyone starting out as Cabin Crew would get paid nothing like that amount.

it's €22k basic before tax for a starting position. Plus allowances, bonuses and commission on sales etc.
In saying this is for starting positions, there's not a hope of anyone jumping up the pay scale and achieving the same legacy pay as what supervisors and cabin managers are on nowadays.

Thats sounds more plausible that the 29K AFTER tax quoted previously.

well whoever quoted the €29k obviously misheard it somewhere. I know someone who's cabin crew and they only told me recently that their basic was something like €805 after tax and that's getting paid fortmonthly.
