    Hi everybody !

    Just a quick query,

Working as an IT Manager for the last 6 years with my present company,I am leaving at the end of the month to take up an IT Manager role with another company closer to home.

The company I am leaving have asked about doing some work on the weekends, etc until they hire a new guy and get him trained up,etc

What are everybody's thoughts on this ?

I woudnt mind to be honest as I like the work and could always do with a bit more cash.

Anyone got any suggestions on how best to charge for work like this ?

    By the hour ?

Also, what would be afair rate to charge per hour ?

    Cheers

    Rob

Have you considered with 41% tax it might not be worth it.
    Just something to thing about

    Hi Mate,

Dont think it will be a problem as it will probably be paid in cash !

    Cheers

Well Mate! You are still liable to tax on it, even if you are working in a self employed capacity.

Unless you are seeking advice on tax evasion, in which case I hope you don't get any replies.

What he does with the cash is irrelevant, he wasn't looking for advice on how to handle his money.

I don't see any particular problem with it provided that there's no potential conflict between your old and new employers (i.e. if they're in the same industry). Because it's extra income, there's probably no need to charge proper contract rates. I would say work out what your hourly rate was in your old job, then charge them time and a half based on that (it is Saturday work after all). Whether you charge hourly or daily depends on the type of work. Will you expect to do a set amount of hours each weekend, or differing hours? If it's the latter, charge hourly. If it's the former, charge daily.

Not even thinking about the cash, if there's no time-frame now, there never will be, if you get me.
