As I continue tidying my way through the house, I've found some boxes of cables, and am puzzled by some.

Is there any way to tell a USB cable from a USB 2.0 cable (or is there any difference? What about a FireWire 400 and a FireWire 800 cable?

There are no visible differences between USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 cables. The construction internally may be of better quality with different twists per inch specifications though. The only cables I've had fail on USB 2.0 were those extension cables you get with some USB wifi adaptors.

As for firewire 400 and 800 there are obvious differences.

    Then there are 800 to 400s : Belkin_6ft_9_6FW800.jpg&height=200&width=172
