No I think you can get regional/intercity trains as well, at least you could a few years ago when I did that route. I think our tickets cost around €35 each, one way.

Have a look on site below, I used it lst autumn for booking trips from Brussels to RWC games:

I am in NL and you can buy your train tickets for the Internationaal Trein (to Belgium) at most ticket machines (in English if you use the touch screen ones). The main stops are Antwerpen-Centraal (best of visiting central Antwerp) and Brussel-Centraal. it is worth noting that there is not much time difference between the Thayls and normal Train from Amsterdam to Brussels, as the high-speed line has yet to open. From brussels to paris...that is a different story!

The trains leave Amsterdam Centraal roughly hourly and stop at Schiphol - Den Haag HS-Rotterdam and the main points south of there. You can get to any part of Belgium from either Antwerp or Brussels. Iof you are after Bruges *Brugge in Dutch) then there are a limited nimber of direct trains from The Netherlands. Otherwise it is a simple change in Antwerp.

You can take a loot at either the belgian railways website (www.sncb.be) or the Dutch one (www.ns.nl).

One thing to be aware of tith the ticket machines in NL...they do not like credit cards. Maestro cards are preferred (although some at Schiphol airport may take them).

Incidently, you do not need to book the Internationaal Trein...just turn up and go. The obvious downside is that it is generally not a good idead to travel at 5pm on a friday....!

Oops...just noticed that you are going the other direction. Sorry! Anyway, much of the information applies. it is about 2 hr 15 minutes one way.
